Inkspirational Challenge#342 - Word Prompt

 Inkspirational Challenge #342 is just up over at the blog!  It's a Word Prompt.

My celebration is a Wedding Anniversary!

I took a Tim Holtz/Idea-ology Paper Doll, which is black and white, and colored the bouquet, the hands and faces and the mans' lapel corsage using Distress Water Color Pencils and a Water Brush Pen.  The designer papers are from Worn Wallpaper Scraps also from Tim/Idea-ology.  The couple are popped up on foam dots.  I stamped the Happy Anniversary from Sentiment Suite:Love from The Greetery and added a green enamel heart from Altenew.

A Birthday Ballerina

 A friend asked me to make a card for her grandaughter who is turning 10 and she is a dancer.  I've made Lia other cards with die cut and stamped ballerinas and so went searching in my bottomless pit of a craft room for something different!

I found an unopened bag of Baseboard Dolls from Tim Holtz/Idea-ology that I've had at least for a year but have not used and when I looked through them I found this wonderful vintage ballerina!  So then I searched Tim Holtz YouTube videos on how I could color the image (the Baseboard Dolls are all black and white photographs printed on thick baseboard.) 

I found a video on coloring with Distress Watercolor Pencils (another thing I have had in my room for over a year but have never used -  and totally forgot what to do with them)  I rubbed both Tattered Rose (for the flesh parts) and Tumbled Glass (for the dress, hat and shoes) onto my craft mat in two different spots.  Then I used a water brush pen to pick up the colors brushing over the flesh parts first and then the dress.  It gives a wonderful soft color! You can see, especially on the dress, that the blue doesn't cover the whole dress, which makes it light and airy!

You can brush over these Baseboard Dolls with clear Gesso and let it dry before watercoloring - then the color covers more of the area and is darker- this works well especially if you are coloring a Baseboard Doll that has a lot of black that wouldn't  show the color (like a long coat or pants)  But I digress......

I embossed a white card panel using All Star Burst EF and water-brushed the same Tumbled Glass,  lightly radiating out from the center along the embossed lines.

I popped the ballerina up on foam dots and added a computer generated personalized sentiment for Lia!

Inkspirational Challenge - #289 - Mini

 The first May challenge is up over at Inkspirational today.  

It's a word prompt challenge and the word is Mini!

I interpreted "Mini" as both a small image (it's stamped on a 2" x 2" square) 

and a small card - my card base is 3 3/4" x 3 3/4"

I stamped the Make a Wish Mini image from Colorado Craft onto a die cut square of water color paper using Nocturne Versafine Clair ink.  I made sure the ink was dry, and then water colored the image also creating a ground and sky around it.

I die cut two size squares using Cross Stitch Nesting Squares from Tutti Design.  I used a Nestability Square die to cut out the middle of the smaller square and used that for my image.

The square around the image is up on foam strips.

I die cut the card base using Noted: Scalloped Square die from Papertrey Ink.

Gobble 'Til You Wobble

 A little humor for Thanksgiving - I think we all feel like this after Thanksgiving dinner!?!

 

 I stamped the turkey onto watercolor paper with Archival Black Ink.  I water colored the image and grounded it with a swash of watery green.  I added the sentiments  Mini Strips: Harvest cut with the Mini strips die from Taylored Expressions.  To finish it off I added a few enamel dots from Altenew.

Emboss Resist Birthday

 There's a fun emboss resist challenge going on over at the CAS Mix Up blog this month.

They have links to several different ways to achieve the look and I chose Heat Emboss Resist  with Water Color Wash.

I used a really cool stencil called Milky Way from A Colorful Life Designs, laying it over a panel of watercolor paper and taping around the edges to hold it down.  Then I sponged over the stencil using a finger dauber and Versamark Ink.   I carefully removed the stencil and heat embossed the panel with clear embossing powder.  Then I brushed water over the embossed area and brushed on  the water colors one at a time and not overlapping so it didn't make mud!   I adhered the die cut sentiment from Altenew over the image.

Use Your Wings

 I'm joining in with the July CAS Mix Up challenge today.  The challenge this month is Watercolor and the theme is 'Things with Wings'.

My thing with wings is the dragonfly made using Curio Summer Findings from the Greetery.  My water coloring is the wings as well as the blue background.  I smooshed Dox inks in Speckled Egg and Spiced Marmalade (one at a time!)  onto my craft mat, spritzed with water and then smooshed panels of water color paper, one into each color.  I hope that counts as using watercoloring!

I used Pin Point Rings from Poppy Stamps to emboss the circles and a Small Talk Sticker for the sentiment.

I thought they looked bright like fireworks!  

I change his topper every week using whatever is blooming.

Snow Drops for Easter

 Time to make my Easter Cards!

I water colored a panel of white with strokes of Bronze paint to make it look more like the uneven coloring on an egg shell, and die cut a Nestability egg out of the panel. I cut the top off the die cut egg using the bottom edge of the egg die.

I die cut and water colored Snow Drops and stems out of white and adhered them to the back of the egg with tape.

 I embossed the background with the Tufted Embossing Folder from SU and then stenciled over it with the Pebbles stencil from Lavinia using Antique Linen Distress ink and a blending brush - just lightly stenciling over the center of the panel.

I adhered the egg and snowdrops to the panel with thick foam dots, curving the outside edges of the egg down. I added Glossy White Nuvo Crystal drops over the snow drop blossoms to add a little dimension.  I stamped the sentiment and punched it with the Word Window punch from SU.

Mid month reminder - CAS Christmas Card Challenge - Snowmen

 Today I'm sharing my reminder card for this month's CAS Christmas Card Challenge.  Hideko would like us to use SNOWMEN on our cards!

I used yet another sweet image from Colorado Craft Co -  Snowmen and Bunnnies.  You actually get two images in this set!  I used a light watercolor wash to color the image, stamping with Obsidian Ink from Altenew on to Canson watercolor Cold Press paper.  I water colored a bit of color along the edges and then kind of dragged the color over with a wet brush.

A Bunny and a Balloon Birthday

I recently purchased this sweet stamp set Birthday Wishing by Colorado Craft Co. and wanted to try it out right away.  

I stamped the images onto a panel of watercolor card and then water colored the bunny, the balloon and the other little critter.  When that was dry, I water colored the grass to ground them and the blue sky above them.  I adhered the panel to a white card base.

A Linky Birthday Party for Nancy

Today, Loll is hosting a linky birthday party for Nancy Littrell who is turning 75 today!  I have known Nancy for many years as we both participate in challenges over at Splitcoaststampers and also are on Design Teams for Loll's CAS Challenges.  What a milestone of a birthday!  She is certainly a very YOUNG 75, as she is so active: hiking, gardening, preserving and canning the crop from her garden, camping and, of course, stamping!

So with this card I'm wishing Nancy a very Happy Birthday!

I did a watercolor wash for the background on watercolor paper that I had masked the edges on and then flicked watery orange re-inker over it.  I added a little sparkle to it by flicking some Clear Glitter Wink of Stella over the panel.    You can hopefully see the sparkle a little better on the close up below (the white splatter?!)

May CAS Watercolour Card Challenge - Night Sky

Hello everyone and welcome to May.
I hope you are all managing ok through this Coronavirus Crisis.

I know crafting has helped me cope with staying at home.  I can spend a whole day working in my craft room.

And now there's a new Watercolour CAS Card challenge up on the blog.   Jenny is our creative hostess this month and she would like us to watercolor the Night Sky!

I water colored a dark night sky behind a cityscape die cut layered over the sky with foam dots.  I embossed the HOPE in silver as well as the rest of the sentiment below the image. I layered the panel to a slightly larger panel of metallic silver card.

One photo of my process.  I just purchased the Boku-Undo Shadow Black watercolor paints (thank's for the enabling Nancy!)  I used the Bluish Black on the top of the panel and the Purplish Black along the bottom.  I started by brushing water over the watercolor panel and then brushed on the inks.

The card echos the worlds' feelings as we hope for the lessening of the Coronavirus spread and the return of being able to gather with others.
