Group of Seven Cardmakers - February 2024 Technique - Masked Stenciling

Today I'm sharing my cards made for the Group of Seven Cardmakers February technique - Masked Stenciling.

The technique was used by our Guest Designer Pat (Colorful Craft Creations) and you will find her card as well as instructions and samples from the rest of the Group of Seven team over at the GO7 Blog.

Here are the cards I created using the Masked Stenciling Technique.

I die cut an egg out of white card stock and adhered it over a panel of light pink cardstock with double sided tape to hold it in place.  Then I laid a Pebbles stencil over the panel and taped the edges of the stencil down to hold it in place.   I inked over the stencil with a blender brush using a slightly darker pink than the card.

I removed the stencil and then the egg mask from the panel.   I stamped the sentiment and added a floral rub-on above the sentiment.

I added a tiny puffy chick sticker below the egg shape and edged the panel with Gold Pigment Ink.

Here are two more I made the same way but with Robins Egg cardstock, a darker blue ink and a Lavinia Charming stencil on the card on the left, Pebbles stencil on the right.

For my final card, I die cut a rabbit out of white card, laid it over a white panel, laid the Lavinia Flora stencil over the panel and inked through the stencil with two shades of green.
I die cut the bow out of chocolate card and covered it with Glossy accents.
I added two little die cut bunnies in Dark Chocolate card on the inside.

Here are photos of the 4 steps I used for all my cards below.  1) Die cut the rabbit (egg) out of white card and layer it over the white (blue or pink) panel, 2) lay the stencil over the panel with the mask on it, 3) ink through the stencil, 4) remove the stencil and the die cut mask.

The bonus of masking with a figure shape is that you get a partially stenciled mask die cut that you could use on a card!

NOTE:   in order to see the defined edges of the die cut egg and bunny mask - I used outline stencils that cover the whole panel.
Example: This stencil below did not work with the bunny mask!
(although it looks good on the bunny!)

We hope you will give this Masked Stenciling technique a try and that you'll link your card up over at the Group of Seven Cardmakers blog so we can see them!

The GO7 team have used many different kinds of masks for this technique.

Cardinal out on a Limb

I'm joining in with a couple of Christmas challenges today -   so I'm not frantically creating cards in December!

My card is 8"x4" so a little bigger than a standard slim line (if there is a standard?!)

My lovely cardinal was made using the Feathered Friend die by Tim Holtz/Sizzix. (special release)  The pine branch was made using Pine Wisps die from The Greetery.  The Sentiment stamp is from Simple Strips: Christmas cut with Simple Strips Die - both from Taylored Expressions.  The cardinal and sentiment are up on foam dots.

Inkspirational #310 Cake on a Plate

Here is my DT card for Inkspirational Challenge #310 which is a lovely Mood Board -  what great colors to give us hope that winter will soon be over!

I'm sure you can tell which photo above inspired my card design!

I purchased the Takes the Cake Mini die set from The Greetery several months ago (it's just $9!) and was happy to get it out and use it!   The gold letters are puffy stickers from Michaels.

There's so much to inspire you on our Mood Board - we can't wait to see what you create from it.  You'll find some lovely inspiration from the rest of the DT over at Inkspirational - along with Mr. Linky.

The challenge is open through 3/8.

Mickey and Minnie Birthday Balloon

A friend requested that I  make a card for her 9 year old granddaughter, Gwen, who loves all things Disney!

I recently purchased some fun Mickey and Minnie stamps, dies and patterned papers, so pulled them right out to create this card.  I colored the mice with Zig Clear Color brushes in Cobalt Blue, Black and Carmine Red.   I added dots to Minny's skirt with a white POSCA pen

The balloon is from the  Magical Memories Die set by Kat Scrappiness, Minnie and Micky are from Mousing Around stamps and die from Unity.  All the die cuts are up on foam dots.  I used my Brother Label Maker for the sentiment.

Instead of making a folded card - I added a die cut easel to the back of the panel so it could be stood up and displayed.  The hearts are from the Mousing Around stamp set, the sentiment is from Sentiment Suite: Birthday from The Greetery.

Lilac and Mint Easter

I keep wanting to join in with the Color Hues Challenge and today is the day I finally did it!

I thought they were perfect colors for Easter and created this card.

The lilac image is a rub-on from Taperlogy.  I applied it to a panel of hammered white card.   The Decorative Floral Circle is a die from Rubbernecker.  I cut out the center of the floral circle so it would be like a frame.  I used two nesting circle dies to cut a thin circle out of a sheet of double sided sticky foam so I could pop up the frame over the lilac rubon.  I cut the sentiment strip with the circle so it fit inside the frame, also up on foam dots.  I added 7 enamel dots from Altenew.

Picket Fence Baseball Field Birthday

Another card made for a friend for her grandson who plays baseball and is turning 12 - I bet you could tell that by looking at my card!?!

I printed a free image on the internet of the baseball field for the background.  I rubbed a brown inkpad over the die cut fence from Papertrey Ink and layered it over the background with foam strips.  I stamped the die cut bat, ball and mitt  and adhered them over the fence, as well as the die cut letters and sentiment.  I added the die cut numbers above the fence.

Instead of a folding card -  I adhered a die cut easel to the back so it can be stood up on shelf or bureau.

Lia's 9th Birthday

Several of my friends 'hire' me to create special/personalized cards for their family/friends special days.

I made this card for a recent request for my friends grand daughter Lia's 9th birthday.

I used a newly purchased Cupcake Die from Whimsy Stamps along with a ballerina die from Amazon, letter and number dies from Sizzix.  The background was embossed using Organic Petals 3D Embossing folder from Sizzix.  I added a row of lace to ground the cupcake and personalized it with her name and the number 9.  The cupcake, ballerina and sentiment are up on foam dots.

Instead of a folding card design - I added a die cut easel to the back of the panel so Lia can stand this up on her bureau or shelf!
