Embossed Washi Thank You!

Today I'm sharing a card I made for the Splitcoaststampers Technique Lovers challenge.   The challenge was Embossed Washi Background, which I had never heard of or tried before!

I just love how this came out!   I adhered strips of Washi over a white card panel until it was completely covered.   I started with the bird one in the center and worked above and below from there as I wanted the birds the central focus.  Then I embossed the panel with my SU Square Lattice Embossing Folder, added the die cut THANK YOU and adhered the panel to a black panel and then to a white card base.  

That beautiful Rose Birds Washi is by Alexandra Renke, I used her beautiful Foxes Washi on this Mother's Day card back in May.  The others are just generic Washi tapes I got probably at either Michaels or Joann.

What a great way to use up all those washi tapes we have - and to create a beautiful background at the same time!

Surprise Pop Up

Last week the Technique Challenge over at Splitcoaststampers was to make a Surprise Pop Up Card.

I was so excited about it - I ended making 2 of them.

How cute would this be sitting on a shelf or table? I colored little Hoppy Poppy with Tombow Markers - spreading the color around with Clear Glitter Wink of Stella so there's lots of sparkle 

(that you can't see in the photo!)

Then I needed a birthday card for a friend and had this King of the Grill stamp and die set that I have never used since purchase, probably 4 years ago??  I thought it was perfect for a male card.  This set is so fun with stamps for all the layers - burger, cheese, lettuce, ketchup and even an olive stuck in the bun!  I popped up the bun pieces on foam so it's quite dimensional!

Risen!

There was a really fun New Techniques challenge over on Splitcoaststampers today.   Painting with Cardboard.  Judy shared a YouTube Video with us showing just what this was all about!

I'm already in Easter mode -  Easter is early this year, April 1 - and two friends and I make cards to sell at church.   

I made two cards using the technique - using different colors and I have a few photos to show how I made them.

You start out by taking an empty toilet paper roll and cutting a fringe on one end.  Bend the fringe back and pounce the fringe into the acrylic paint (lightest first) and press it onto your card panel.  You repeat the process with the same color until you have the look you want, then you go to the next darker color and finish with the darkest color.

For my blue card - I used PaperArtsy Haystack, Guacamole, and Sky.  This shows the panel after applying my first color.

And here is is with all 3 of the colors.

After I made the panel above,  I added a little water with my paintbrush to the ink circles on my nonstick sheet and was able to 'stamp' another panel - it came out a little lighter.

Then I cleaned up my mat, made a new toilet paper roll 'brush' and used two different paints to make another panel.  Here I used PaperArtsy Tango and Zesty Zing.

I made two panels of these colors as well - and here they are all done.

As soon as I saw the lovely 'bursts' this technique created I knew I wanted to use this He is Risen stamp on them.

I added 3 white sequins to each card and framed them in two of the colors used on the design and then adhered it all to a white card base.

Bridge Fold Thank You

Splitcoaststampers had a fun Technique Challenge on Monday -  how to make a Bridge Fold Card.

I made two:

One for my niece Christie

and one for my niece Katie, to thank them both for their thoughtful Christmas gifts.

  The front piece is only attached to the left and right panels so it forms a 'bridge' in front of the card.

I cut panels out of patterned paper slightly smaller than each panel of the card.

I used the On the Edge Thank You Die from Simon Says Stamp but added a strip of black behind the letters as they showed up better here.  I added some  real sequins over the printed ones.

They fold flat for mailing  as shown below and fit into a regular size A2 envelope.

(This is also how you fold it to attach the bridge piece - attaching only on the left and right corners.)

A simple to make card that looks very elaborate!

Sabrina gave us slightly different cutting instructions that makes the bridge piece a bit longer. Either way will work.  On the video, the woman put patterned paper strips over her bridge strip, I put my bridge strip over the patterned paper.

Cut an 8"x 4 1/4" piece for the card base.

Score at 1 1/4", 2 1/2", 5 1/2" and 6 3/4" along the 8" side.

cut a piece 1 1/4" x 5 1/2" for the bridge piece.

cut your card base 10.5 cm high by 20cm wide.
Score at 2.5 cm, 5 cm, 15 cm and 17.5 cm.
Cut the long strip 3 cm high by 15 cm long.
Cut your matting layers accordingly. 

I think I'll be making this fun Bridge Fold again!

Oh Christmas Tree

Chipping away at my Christmas card supply for this  year -  I made this one for two challenges.

The Technique Lovers challenge over at Splitcoast was to try Acrylic Resist. 

I embossed the Tall Pines by Tim Holtz onto a white panel.  Then I brushed over the panel with Weathered Wood Distress Paint and let it dry.   Next, I sanded over the raised trees to remove the paint and then sponged over the trees with Ranger Distress Frayed Burlap.  The paint resists the ink where it hasn't been sanded.  I stamped the sentiment in the corner and added blue Tiny Twinkles to the trees.

God Writes the Gospel

Today I'm playing along with two challenges over at Splitcoaststampers -  Monday's Technique Lovers Challenge and Tuesdays Color Challenge.

Karen Dunbrook hosted the Technique challenge and she gave us instructions for swiping ink over a cardstock panel with an old credit/gift card.   And the colors for the Color Challenge are sugarplum, wasabi, daffodil (or something similar!)

I had enough ink spread on my craft mat to make two cards (always a plus!)

They are basically the same - with different designs on the backgrounds as you can never make the same swipe twice (!) and different die cuts.

For the backgrounds, I rubbed 3 Ranger Distress Oxide Inks onto my craft mat - Peeled Paint, Worn Lipstick and Fossilized Amber.  I spritzed them with a little water.   Then I dipped just the edge of the used gift card into one of the inks - then dragged it across the panel of white card.  I continued this process with each color, changing the direction of the swipe now and then (you can make a great plaid with this technique!) until I liked the look.  

The die cuts on this card are Leafy Branch 2 and Leafy Branch 5 from Elizabeth Craft Designs.

Here's the 2nd card with a slightly different background design and the die cuts are Dandelion Fluff also from Elizabeth Craft Designs.  The sentiment is from an older Papertrey Ink set - Out on a Limb sentiments.

I'm making cards for a group at my church that sends 'thinking of you' cards to elderly members who cannot get out to church - so I think these will be very nice for that purpose!

Steam Punk Nipper Winston

I've got a cool metal foil card to share with you today!

For this fun steam punk background I embossed a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"  piece of foil sheet tape with the Riveted Metal Embossing folder by Tim Holtz.  I then hand embossed some more lines with an embossing tool and  pressed some circles inside the squares using the tip of a click-open pen (without the ink clicked on).  Next I painted over the whole sheet with black acrylic paint - rubbing most of it off after I applied it.  I also rubbed some Rub N Buff Autumn Gold Wax metallic cream over some of it and buffed it with a paper towel.

 

 My cute little aviator is a digital image from Octopode Factory named Steam Punk Nipper Winston. I colored him with Copics. The sentiment is from Waltzingmouse and I die cut it with a Wonky Rectangle Nestability. Both are layered onto the foil with foam dots.

I made this card for the Technique challenge over on Split Coast.  I feel like I cheated a little using an embossing folder to create my foil background instead of hand tooling the whole thing  (!)   There's a great video on You Tube showing how to make your own metallic foil background here:

Framed Wings and Some Embossed Sympathy

Let's Mark the Book

I love to read -  and therefore - I love finding new styles of bookmarks to make using my stamps!

This fun design was Joan's Technique Lover's challenge over on Split Coast this week.   It's the kind of bookmark that slips over the page - a foldover bookmark!

Here are Joan's instructions:

1. Cut a piece of card stock 2" x 11" and fold in half so it measures 2" x 5 1/2" (or use a scrap of card stock near the same size).
2. Cut the top corners in the shape of a tag ( or use a die for a fancy shape) and punch a hole in the center top for ribbons or twine.
3. Sew through the front and back about 1/2" from the top so the bookmark will stay closed and not flop open. If you don't sew, you can glue the front and back together on the inside from the fold down about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch.
4. Now, decorate anyway you want...remember to keep it flat so the bookmark will fit over the page snuggly!!!

I stamped a crackle background on a white panel then stamped the box words over it. My stamps are from Rubbernecker.  My sewing machine and I are not on the best of terms right now (!) so I just put a piece of ScorTape across the inside just above the stamped panel.

I think this design would work for both male or female even though there is ribbon at the top!

Courage with Faux Patina

My goodness - what a fun Try a New Technique challenge we had over at Split Coast this week!  Faux Patina!! Have you tried this before???

Here's how I made mine based on Judy Rozema's instructions for the challenge.   It looks like a lot of work - but it doesn't take much time at all.  I listed the colors that I used - but you can use any combination you want!

1. I ran my River Rock ink pad over the inside cover of my Patchwork embossing folder, inserted my white card stock panel and embossed it.  This colors the background of the embossed panel and not the pushed up parts (clean the ink off your folder as soon as you emboss the paper).

2. Next I sponged Taken With Teal Ink over the embossed panel.

3. Then I sponged Always Artichoke over the embossed panel.  

Sponging with all these colors gives a wonderful mix of color -  you can see how it mixes as you go along so you can sponge more or less depending on how you want it to look!

5. I lightly brushed my embossing ink pad (Versamark)  over the raised areas of the embossed panel, then I sprinkled the panel with gold embossing powder (you can use any color metallic embossing powder you want to).  It will probably stick to most of the card - so brush off most of it with a cloth or brush (you only want the gold here and there) then emboss it with your hot gun.

and you have a lovely faux patina!   

My Rubbernecker sentiment says "Courage doesn't always roar, sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying "I will try again tomorrow". "   I gold embossed it on a piece of Ocean Tide card stock, cut it with a rectangle Nestability, sponged the edges with Bundled Sage before taking it out of the die and layered it to a gold card stock panel.   The crown is from Heart & Wings Tim Holtz die.  I buy my pretty wrinkled seam tape from Prairie Bird Boutique Etsy shop.

Clean and Simple Snow!

I've been missing a bit here on the old blog - I'm on vacation for two weeks - just at home - busy with holiday preparations and celebrations - some babysitting of one of my sweet grand-nephews - 7 month old James Charles - seen here playing happily with his feet!

- going out to lunch with  my sister at Pickity Place - and today I went to see the Sherlock Holmes movie with my dear husband Kent! - Wednesday I have plans to meet my stamping friend Anne (jdmommy) for lunch and I still have 7 more days off!

I have been stamping though -  and here are two I made for Split Coast challenges - both oddly enough involving snow! (although our ground is bare here in New England we did have some flurries on Christmas Day!)

This card was made for the CAS challenge (to make a window card) as well as the Technique Lovers Challenge - to make a simple thank you card.  I used 3 new toys on this - the Small Madison Window die, the Snowfall die and the Country Landscape die.  I sponged the window and the landscape with Antique Linen.  I love how this came out!

My second snow card is also a thank you card -  made for the Color Challenge which is Night of Navy, Bashful Blue and White with the dessert option of using glitter (that I put on the punched snowflakes!)

The flight pattern stamp is from Little Lady set by Papertrey Ink, and the Thank You is from Join Us set by Waltzingmouse.

We Must be Willing to Let Go

This is the first card I'm posting over at the Sweet 'n Sassy Blog today as part of my Design Team Assignments!    I'd love for you to hop over there and leave a comment on my posting!
I used the twisted easel style for my card today - isn't this cool??!!  It was the Try a New Technique challenge over at Split Coast this week.   Here's the link to the instructions from Laura's Blog:

You start with a piece of card stock 8 1/2" x 4 1/4" that you fold in half.  Then you fold the front of the card over - corner to corner to form the triangle.  Then adhere the rectangle to the front. The scalloped circle is adhered with foam tape and helps keep the easel up.

Here's how it looks folded down - it will go flat and fit in a regular A2 size envelope -  (it just wouldn't stay completely flat without me holding it down!)   It measures 4 1/4" x4 1/4"

I was so pleased with how this came out - I'll definately be making more cards using this fun style!
I used the Split Coast CAS challenge colors - chocolate, sand, baby blue and white.

My stamps are a wonderful new Faith set from Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps called Let Go and Let God.

Stickles and Kissing!

We had two fun challenges over at Split Coast last week - My first card was for Joan's Try a New Teachnique challenge - to 'paint' your image using Stickles!

I have quite a few bottles of stickles but not a great array of colors! I only had a Christmas Tree Green that had red mixed in it - so I used Blueberry Ice on the trees instead. I used Arctic Ice and Diamond on the cloud, yellow and orange peel on the sun and Frayed Burlap on the ground.

I stamped the image on a separate panel and sponged the edges. I embossed a frame on the card with my rectangle nestie and adhered the image with foam tape inside the frame - taking Joan's advice to put it all together BEFORE putting on the stickles!

I love how pretty my little forest sunrise came out. The sparkle is unbelievable! Joan did a little tutorial on her blog if you'd like to check it out.

I've used the kissing technique a few times and I love how it adds dimension to a silhouette stamp! 'Kissing was the SCS Clean and Simple Challenge .

I tried several different stamps before settling on my bed of roses background stamp and the model T silhouette - it came out kind of funky - but I like it!

This could be an old abandoned car found in the woods with foliage growing all over it!

I inked the car with Antique Linen and the roses background stamp with Forest Moss - 'kissed' the stamps together and stamped the car on a panel. I sponged the edges, stamped a little of the background roses on the card and then adhered the image panel.

In keeping with 'clean and simple' - I just stamped the sentiment right on the card! All my stamps for both cards are from Rubbernecker.

Pics from the Fair and Two Challenges

Hello friends! I'm finally back after a very busy weekend working at my church fair -Yikes - I'm exhausted! I have a few pictures to share with you today.

Here's the main hall where we have the Candy Table, Baked Goods, Country Store, Knit Table, and the Stamped Cards and Crafts Table.

Here's all the delicious hand made candy - I bought my usual 1/2 pound of Cashew Turtles - Yum!!

These are some of the sweet little kids sweaters someone made and donated to the Knit Table.

In another hall on the first floor we have a Jewelry table and a Holiday Table.
Downstairs we have a book table - actually more like a book 'area' with great bargains - hardcovers cost 50 cents and paperbacks are a quarter!

On Friday night we have a pie social - and on Saturday there is a Snack Bar for lunch.

In another hall downstairs we have the ever popular White Elephant room (a polite name for 'junk'!!)

And seeing as I wasn't able to stamp all weekend - I just had to do a couple of the Split Coast challenges today!

My first project is for Joan's Try a New Technique challenge - to make a Christmas Ornament. She had several examples to inspire us. I wanted to try the double ball ornament - You can find the Tutorial in the SCS forum here

What a fun little gift tag this will make - and then the recipient can put it on their tree! AND it's quick and easy to make! You really need to try one! This also fits Kimme's Hope You Can Cling to challenge to use ribbon.

I made this card for the SCS Clean and Simple challenge - to use gingham or checks. It also fits Jessica's Hope You Can Cling To challenge - Sew Thankful for Friendship. To use some kind of stitching on your card.
