Eileen Hull's Chapter 1 Phone Stand Bigz Die

Eileen Hull/Sizzix has just released the new Chapter 1 dies, stamps and embossing folders.  For the Month of February,  Eileen's Design and Education Teams are sharing projects using her new designs.

Today I am sharing her wonderful Phone Stand Die.

First, I have photos of the finished project and then a few photos of how I put it together (it's really simple!)

I used this beautiful Ink Drops - Vivid paper from Craft Consortium on all the sides and pieces - stunning isn't it?!
(it looks like I did some pretty good work with Alcohol Inks - but no, not today!)

Simple how to:
Die cut the 3 pieces for the Phone Stand out of white matboard.
Fold the large stand base piece at the score line with the slit openings. The two other score lines on this larger piece are the back of the stand (to the left of the slits in photo)
Fold the smaller tabbed-piece on the score line in the middle, slip the tabs through the slots in the folded base piece and glue the tabs in place.
View from the front.
Fold the second small piece on the score line and put ScorTape on the inside .
Adhere this piece over the outside of the first tabbed piece, lining up the edges at the top of the first piece..
Fold on the score lines on the back piece of the stand.   Add ScorTape to the end tab.
Adhere it the tab to the back of the long piece - being sure it's not tilted back too far to hold the phone in a good position
(I put my phone on this to see how it sat, before adhering the tab to the back)

To decorate the top edge of the stand, I die cut two scalloped edges from Eileen's Gift Box Scalloped Edge die released last year (the top of the larger piece in the center of the die) cutting it out of matboard and the patterned paper.
I cut one scallop on the score line and adhered the patterned paper to both scallops, also stamping the sentiment on the smaller piece.
I adhered the smaller scallop over the larger lining up the straight edge and adhered them to the top of the phone stand with the larger scallop extending above the edge of the stand.  I added some enamel dots and hearts on the scallops.

After adhering the paper to all the sides - I sponged over the edges to cover the white matboard - it gives it a more finished look!

Be creative in your thinking - this stand could be used to hold mail on your counter, photos on your shelf, or a calendar on your desk - what else can you think of??!

Check out Eileen's blog every Wednesday in February to see all of the Design Team's inspiring creations using her new Chapter 1 dies!

Cloisonne Jar of Flowers

Today I'm joining in with the CAS Mix Up Card Challenge - using Faux Cloisonne.  I have not done this before so wanted to check it out!

I used embossing, and stenciling with mousse as my mediums and stamped the sentiment.

I used the cloisonne technique where you take a page from a glossy magazine and gold emboss an image over it.  I didn't have any magazines so I got out last years calendar from the Disabled Veterans that luckily, I hadn't thrown out yet.

This one was from a photo of a sunrise on a farm road, of oranges and tans with a pink sky.  I tried to line up the stamp in an area of colors that would work with the image.

Here's the image I used below -  I stamped it in two places  and ended up using the one cut out on the left where it showed the sun rising in the orange sky.
The area on the right was all a mix of oranges and yellows and didn't have enough variation and you couldn't see the detail of the image very well.

I wanted to try another page with different colors so here is my second card.

Here's the calendar page I used for this stamping, just capturing the darkness of the night landscape and the purples and reds of the sunset.

For both cards, I die cut scalloped frames and stenciled over the center of them using Mother of Pearl Nuvo Embellishment Mousse with a bubbles stencil.
I adhered each faux cloisonne image to a die cut piece of white card to give it sturdiness and layered it over the stenciling with foam dots after the mousse was dry.
I stamped the Hello in coordinating colors, punched it with a Word Window punch, added 3 gold pearls and layered it over the image with foam dots.

February CAS Christmas Card Challenge - Winter Scene

February has arrived and it's not just time for Valentines -  it's also time for the February CAS Christmas Card Challenge!  Christine is our hostess this month and she is asking us to make a Winter Scene on our clean and simple cards!

I recently purchased this lovely die from Amazon.  I die cut it out of white card and layered it over a piece of DP which I had cut with a pierced feature rectangle frame die from PTI.  The winter church scene is up on foam dots.  The sentiment is a Small Talk Sticker/Occasions from Tim Holtz/Idea-ology.  I brushed Clear Glitter Wink of Stella over the die cut which gives it a lovely shimmer IRL but does not show up in the photo.

There's no time like the present to start your Christmas Cards!

We hope to see your CAS  winter scenes linked up at CAS Christmas!
You'll find lots of inspiration from the rest of the Design Team as well as our talented February Guest Designer Izzy (IzzyScrap) at the CAS Christmas Card Challenge blog!

Eileen Hull Sizzix - Chapter 1 - 2022 Release Blog Hop

Today I'm participating in Eileen Hull's Sizzix Chapter 1 Dies 2022 blog hop.  They have just released the Book Box Bigz die that I'm using in this post, along with the Phone Stand Bigz Die, the Snail Mail Thinlit die (that coordinates with her Snail Mail Everyday Sentiments Stamp Set by Maker Forte) and her Vintage Buttons 3D embossing folder

The blog hop starts at Eileen's blog.

Today, I'm sharing my project using her Book Box Bigz Die.

I have several photos of the finished project followed by many photos of how I put this together.

The beautiful paper I covered the box with is from American Crafts sold as single sheets at Michaels.

I die cut the binding out of Gunmetal Cowhide Genuine Leather from Sizzix. (no longer available)

The back of the box.

The stamping inside the cover is from Eileen's Wonderful World of Flowers stamp set by Maker Forte which I white embossed.

How to:
I die cut the pieces twice using the Book Box Bigz die.  You need two of each of the pieces accept for the binding piece shown on the right.
I folded the tabs on each of the box sides pieces and adhered them using ScorTape on the end tabs to create the box frame.
Be sure the tabs are lined up evenly and that the frame created is 'squared'.
I folded the binding piece on the score lines just enough to make it curve.  I added ScorTape to the inside edges
I laid the back cover over the binding piece that had the ScorTape on it.
I wanted to create a closure for the box using Idea-ology Linen Ribbon.  I cut a piece of the ribbon 28" long.  I laid a piece of ScorTape across the middle of the inside back cover.
(no tape on the binding piece)

I applied ScorTape to the tabs on the box piece and laid it over the back book cover, leaving equal space on top and bottom and lining up the left edge along the edge of the back cover - which leaves a little space on the right side of the back cover.

I laid the loose end of the ribbon straight across the binding and put ScorTape over the last edge of the binding so the tape holds the ribbon in place when you attach the front cover.
I adhered the patterned paper to the die cut  cover using Ultra Bond Adhesive
Tucking the cover under the loose ribbon and pushing it right up to the edge of the binding.

I did the same with the back cover - adding the piece of patterned paper.

I die cut another binding piece out of this cool Metallic Gunmetal Cowhide from Sizzix.  As can often happen - there were a few cut throughs on the scores in the leather, so I used a really strong glue to adhere the leather binding to the matboard binding (Beacon 3 in 1 Advanced Craft Glue).  I held the ends on with clips and let dry overnight, checking the binding every so often and pressing it down with my finger if it was lifting anywhere.

To finish off the box, I cut and adhered the patterned paper to inside cover, and the sides of the box.
And here it is with the tie closure in a bow.
A beautiful gift box or storage box!
