The February CAS Stencil Card Challenge is posted today! Barb is our talented hostess this month and she wants us to use foil with our stencils!
There are links to several technique videos over at the blog - you don't have to use a laminator.
For today's cards I did use foil with a Royal Sovereign 13" laminator. (I got mine on Amazon). I'll show you my cards and then a few process photos.
I used the same products on both cards - just a different color foil. The stencil is from Stencil Girl ATC Mix Up Toadstools a 12" stencil that has 9 small ATC size stencils on it. I used Deco Foil in Aqua for this card. The panel is die cut with Mix and Mat Pinked Edge Die from PTI. The sentiment is from Best Sentiments from Altenew and is popped up on foam.
I used Deco Foil in Bronze for my second card.
Close up to see the wonderful shine!
Here's how I did the foiling for my second card with the Bronze foil.
I taped my stencil over a panel of Tropical Teal card.
Then I spread Deco Foil Transfer Gel over the stencil using a plastic spatula.
I removed the stencil and washed the stencil right away.
The stenciling looks white at this point - but it turns clear after drying (I left it to dry overnight)
So I didn't take a photo of this piece showing the sandwich that I used for putting it through the laminator - but I do have this photo below of another one I tried (but ended up not liking the colors).
So the stenciling on the brown card below is now clear. I cut a piece of foil to fit over the panel and laid it over the stenciling shiny side up. I placed it inside a piece of folded computer paper and then put it through the laminator with the fold of the computer paper going in first. The laminator grabs the paper and runs it through automatically rather slowly.
When it comes out of the laminator on the other side - remove the folder, open the paper up and peel the Deco Foil off the panel
This one was made using Bronze Deco Foil.
This one was made using Aqua Deco Foil.
So we hope you will give foil a try! You'll find all the challenge details, links to technique videos and beautiful inspiration from the DT, including our wonderful Guest Designer this month Steph (My Paper Corner), here at CAS Stencil.
We can't wait to see how you use foil with your stencils! The challenge ends on Feb 24.

WOW Julia! Awesome foiling!
I always envy those who can work with coloured cardstock - mine usually are a disaster! These have worked out brilliantly. x
Gorgeous shine and two beautiful foil cards, Julia. TFS your extra photos of your process too. Loved the close ups showing the shine. Hugs..Nancy
2 great cards, my favourite is the aqua foiled one. The tone on tone is really effective and shows the shine well. Thanks for the info on using transfer gell. I am just learning the ins and outs of it myself xx
Thank you for your welcome as GD this month ... love your use of coloured cardstock for your foiled flowers, great choice & design ... Steph x
Julia I love the shimmer of the foil on the card stock, great inspiration to bring out my foiling gear :)
Great results for your foiling in both colours Julia! I had many failures before it worked for me, but I know I'm impatient and I don't think I let the gel dry enough. Lesson learned (and hopefully remembered when it comes time to do foiling again). :) Your flowers are gorgeous on the teal card. xx
Gorgeous cards, and gorgeous effect with the foiling, both colours look so pretty on the teal base, Cathy x
Beautiful in both colour variations! Love those pinked edges to the panels! I must be sure to get a card done for this challenge!
Both of these are gorgeous, Julia! You make me want a laminator! I can't decide which I like the best! The tone on tone is really pretty and the bronze foil on the teal card has wonderful contrast! Two awesome cards, my friend!
Gorgeous cards, Julia! My fave is the one you created with aqua foil, but I do love the effect of the bronze foil, too! Thank you so much for sharing the details of your process with us...it's helpful for our visitors to see that it's not a difficult technique! Barb xx
WOW! Great job with the foiling, both colours look fab but I think my favourite is the turquoise xx
Fabulous and eye catching effects with the different colours of foil on your amazing cards x.
It's so amazing how much difference just changing the colour of the foil makes. I love the first tone-on-tone version - especially when you turn the card to catch the light and everything changes colour-wise as the shimmer takes hold. Lovely cards.

These are beautiful. Love the gorgeous shine of the foils.
Fantastic results using the foils with this pretty flower stencil Julia, and I particularly love the tone on tone one and also the pinked edge die cut shape you have placed it on. x
Such a beautiful card and I love that look with the deco foil, so so stunning. Thank you so much for joining us at The Flower Challenge and we hope to see you there again soon. Aileen DesignTeam
