Make Some Noise!

I used some new toys for my card today.
I finally ordered up some of these cool enamel dots everyone is using and I used a  Sprayza Airbrush to make the splatter!   I found out about the Sprayza over at SCS -  Dina had us moving color on our mixed media projects and this was one of her methods -  it's sold as a kit for kids on Amazon.com - you insert an included marker into the spray pen holder - blow through it and it sprays the ink from the pen onto the paper!
I used a wonky rectangle for the sentiment from the Woot Woot set by Cas-ual Fridays Stamps and I cut a small Madison Window Shutter in half extending it above and below the rectangle.  The panel is popped up on foam tape.  Inside I stamped "It's Your Birthday" from the same Woot Woot Set.

I used this week's Cas(e) this Sketch for my design
and the colors from Cas-ual Fridays challenge - aqua, green and orange.
and I'm also entering this in Seize the Birthday challenge.

Stamps:  Woot Woot - Cas-ual Fridays Stamps
Paper:  white, new leaf - PTI, tempting turquoise - SU
Ink:  Ranger Archival Jet Black
Accessories:  Wonky Rectangles - Spellbinders, Sprayza Air Brush & Pens - Melissa & Doug (Amazon.com), foam dots, Small Madison Window Shutter - Poppy Stamps.

Celebrate with Mixed Media

Today I'm sharing the project I made for Mona and Sue's Mixed Media Color Challenge -  their challenge this week is to use purple, blue and green and to use at least 2 types of media.
I've been wanting to use my wonderful Prima Ruffle Doll Stamp I bought some time ago and decided to make her a stand up doll/card using the Tim Holtz Alterations Small Easel die.  I stamped the doll on white sticky back canvas and layered it to a piece of grunge board to give it some firmness.  I also die cut the easel out of grunge board.
Here's a side look at the easel holding her up.  I stamped Wishing you a Happy Birthday on the easel.
For mediums I used:  Copic markers for her skin and hair,  I water colored her dress, headband and shoes with blueberry and raspberry gelatos, I added white Enamel Accents for the dots on her dress and brushed Sheer Sparkle Glitter Glaze over her shoes, headband and the purple part of her dress.

I stamped the sentiment on a piece of linen vellum, punched it out and layered it over the doll with foam tape.  The flowers on her shoes and headband are from SU.
Here's another view of the easel back -  I had to trim off one edge a bit so it didn't show from the front.
Kind of cute isn't she???!!!

Come and join us for the Mixed Media Color challenges!  A new one is posted every other Friday.  I've been learning so much about all the fun media out there we can 'play' with!

I'm also entering this into the Seize the Birthday Challenge

Jolly Well Done!

I've got a card today to slip into the CAS(E) this Sketch Challenge - just under the wire!

I've been away for a couple of days but had my card design in my head, so all I had to do was stamp it out and get it posted!  Of course, it never turns out to be quite that simple - I tried 3 colors before I found the right combination!
My stamps are My Kind of Guy and Crackle Reverse Mini by Waltzingmouse.  Then I just added a rhinestone - I just love the look of this reverse crackle stamp!

Check out today's Moxie Fab World -  Cath is featuring Claire's Waltzingmouse Stamps!

And then check out the details for this month's WMS Pajama Party on the Waltzingmouse Blog - get your challenge cards ready to post on Aug 30th!  I'll be at the party - will you??!

Thank You to a Sweet Friend

Today I'm sharing a little linen bag I decorated with dog buttons, lace and a pretty tag.

I made this for my stamping/blogging friend Mona to thank her for a kindness.  The linen bag is from Pouch Mart and the little wooden dog buttons are from Craftpon.com Etsy Shop.  Mona has two sweet little Westies so I knew she'd appreciate these buttons!

I made the tag using a die from PTI that I colored using a stencil and a blue gelato - with water and a paint brush, I brushed directly on the gelato and then painted over the stencil.  I inked the stamps (that Mona just happened to have designed!!) using Ranger Distress markers - inking directly onto the stamps - spritzing with water and stamping on die cuts of the flower, leaves and stamen. I layered the flower pieces with foam dots.

I hand sewed the lace to the top of the bag and the buttons to the bottom.
Kent and I are on vacation this week -  we'll be spending a couple of days in VT visiting his brother and sister-in-law and another day we will have his sister down from NH for a visit.  The weather here is suddenly beautiful summer -  hot sun and cool breeze with a clear blue sky - hope it stays this way!
Before I go -  I just have to share some pics of a hawk that was in my backyard this morning  - sitting on a rock, pretty as you please, and then flying to the top of my bird feeder -  I zoomed in with my camera from my porch across the yard - so the pics are rather blurry -  but he was a giant bird and I had to get a picture of him.
Hawks attack from the sky and are only on the ground as they eat their kill - so I don't know why he was standing here on the rock - I didn't see any feathers around him (from a kill!) and he didn't appear to be injured - you can see a gray and a black squirrel happily eating birdseed on the ground to the left of him (!) I guess they were too big for him to eat.  Maybe he had just had a kill in the woods behind my house and he was just resting a minute to digest??!!
Then he flew up to the top of the feeders - he's so big he couldn't keep his balance up there - you can see his blurred tail as he tried to balance!  He's looking straight at me!  I don't know yet what kind of hawk he is - he's much bigger than the ones we occasionally  see in our yard.  We have a great bird book and I'll ask Kent to help me compare this pic to the hawks in the book.
Needless to say -  there were NO birds at my feeder until he had been gone for a good 10 minutes!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

We Made It! The Waltzingmouse August Release Day is here!

Today is the anxiously awaited Waltzingmouse August Release Day - all of the new stamps are now available for purchase at the WMS shop!

And as is our custom - the Design Team is having a blog hop and you can win some WMS stamps!  You should start the hop with Claire at the WMS Blog.  She will have a master list there if you lose your way.  If you came here from Sandie's blog you are in the right place!

First up I have a simple book mark using stamps from Tying the Knot.
here's a close up of the sentiment.

Here is a clean and simple card I made using Ocean Bound.  I brushed a puddle of water onto the white panel then 'painted' in the water using re-inkers and more water on a brush. I was trying to do the Mix Ability Challenge on Split coast -  but when I got it done and was posting it I realized I didn't use quite the right technique for the challenge (you were supposed to blow on your ink!)  But I love how this came out - so here it is!  (you can see my re-do here)
And my last project for today is a decorated canvas frame - featuring my sweet grandnephew, James and his dad, Nate, as well as flowers and from 2-Step Sprig, the leaf stem from Simple Sprig and two sentiments from the Vintage Garden Seed Packet set released in Aug 2012.

Two year old James loves to help his mum and dad out in the yard and in the backyard vegetable garden.  I thought it would be nice to remember his helping out with a special frame for this photo.
I painted the canvas frame with Antique Linen Distress Crackle Paint to simulate the garden soil.
I inked the flowers in blue and green to coordinate with the dominant colors in the photo.  I brushed all the blooms and leaf stem with Glitter Glaze Clear Sparkle.
You can see the crackle in the paint on this close up.  I sponged Peeled Paint ink over the crackle.
That's it for me!  I hope you have fun along the blog hop today - and that you're inspired to create your own garden and nautical creations with all the lovely new WMS stamp sets!

Next on the hop is Laurie!

There will be a prize of a stamp set of choice from a random drawing from comments left on all of the DT's blogs. You have until August 12 at 11:59 PM GMT, 5:59 AM Central, 3:59 AM Pacific and 6:59 AM Eastern to leave comments.  The winner will be posted on the Waltzingmouse Blog on August 14th.

Waltzingmouse August Release - Sneak Peek Day 3

Here we are at Day 3 of the Waltzingmouse August Release Sneak Peeks!  TOMORROW is the release and we'll be having the traditional DT blog hop and you could win some stamps!

On this final day we are showing you 3 must have sets -  Pinstripe Background, Zig Zag Background and Big Day Today (a lovely set of 9 sentiments and a frame)

My first card shows you the lovely Pinstripe Background along with one of the sentiments from Big Day Today. I sponged the edges of the pinstripe panel.  The scallop piece is a cut down die cut edge.
I'm entering this card in the Retro Sketch Challenge

Here you can see a close up of the Pinstripe as well as a better look at the leaf stem from yesterdays peek, 2- Step Sprig.  I stamped the leaves green, then blue veins and finally a raspberry center strip (so I did 3 steps!)  It gives the leaves such depth doesn't it?!
I used the cool Zig Zag Background for my second card along with the stem and blooms from yesterdays' Simple Sprig set.  I sponged the edges of the background panel and spritzed the circle with Dylusions Ink Spray.  The simple Happy Birthday is from Big Day Today
Once again - we're off to see what the rest of the Design Team has to show us today!  The release DT blog hop will begin tomorrow at 2 pm EST -  hope you can drop by!

Waltzingmouse August Release - Sneak Peek Day 2

Welcome to Day 2 of the Waltzingmouse Sneak Peeks -  did you just LOVE all the nautical inspiration yesterday??!  Yikes! those stamps are SO fun to work with!

Today we have 3 lovely floral sets to show you -  2-Step Flowers, Funky Flowers, and Simple Sprig.

First up I made a funky little garden box using Funky Flowers!
I took a plain old 3 1/2" x 4 1/2" x 2 1/2" paper mache box and covered it with Foil Tape Sheets that I had embossed with a Wicker Weave folder.  After I adhered it to the box (it has a sticky back) I 'aged' it by rubbing black Alcohol Ink over it.
I tied a stitched grosgrain ribbon around it and tied a little metal trowel charm to the knot.  The For My Friend sentiment is from Vintage Garden Seed Packet from the August 2012  release
I placed a rectangle of colorful floral patterned paper on the bottom of the inside of the box just to dress it up
Next I made a card using the pretty leaf stem from Simple Sprig and one of the two step blooms from 2-Step Flowers.  (The sentiment is from a set we'll be showing you tomorrow!)  Look at how beautiful this bloom is!

I'm putting this card in the Cas(e) this Sketch challenge - (I got it in JUST before the deadline!)

I'm dying to see what the rest of the Design Team made using these wonderful sets -  here are the links to their blogs:
