Be Yourself - July CAS Mix Up Challenge Reminder

It's the 15th and today I have a reminder post for the July CAS Mix Up Challenge

 For my card today, I used stamping, tissue paper, Small Talk Stickers and sequins.

I started with a piece of Tissue Wrap/Melange from Tim Holtz.  The design is already printed on the tissue.   I cut a piece with the design I wanted and taped  the edges to hold it flat on my work table.  I sprinkle just a little bit of Brushos over the paper - Ultra Marine over the butterfly and Orange on the areas around the butterfly.  Then I spritzed just a little water over it - just enough to make the Brushos react.   I dried the piece with my heat tool and then cut it to 3 7/8" x 3 1/4" size.

I adhered the tissue to the top of my card base using my tape runner.  I added a Small Talk sticker and sequins, stamping the sentiment below the panel.  

Here you can see all the different bits of colors in each Brusho - especially the orange -  if you spritz the Brushos with more water it just turns into watercolor paint and you lose the details of the colors.

The stamped sentiment is from the Clearly Sentimental About Art set from MFT.

I added a birthday sentiment inside as I always need birthday cards,  but I could have left it blank to use as an encouragement card.

A Vintage Journey July Challenge - All Squared Up

The July Challenge is up over at A Vintage Journey!  Tracy is our hostess this month and her challenge is "All Squared Up".  

Here is the challenge description in her own words:  "Whether a frame, embellishment, die cuts, drawn squares, doodles or windows, let's see where inspiration takes you, let's get all squared up and show how creative those right angles can look! Show us your squared up pieces in a vintage; shabby; mixed media; art journaling; industrial, timeworn or steampunk style."

I had a completely different idea in my head when I walked into my craft room to start my project - but as I started looking through my 'stuff' I found these wonderful vintage linen napkins that I purchased many years ago at an antique shop in Vermont (6 for $10.00!)  and they were just waiting for me to pull them out and do something with them!   

And stenciling is what I did to them!    

Wendy Vecchi has a wonderful tutorial on the Ranger blog here - from last December, showing how she stenciled on hand towels for Christmas.

So my 'squares' are the square napkins as well as the Checkmate Stencil background on each napkin.

I stamped a tiny red bird on the tree - but the clarity of the outline got blurred with the colors behind it but I like the little punch of color and you can see it's a bird when you look up close!!

All the stencils, stamps (accept for the little bird) and inks are by Wendy Vecchi.  

Here are a several photos of my process.

This stencil is Layered Tree - first I stenciled the tree trunk using WV Archival Tree Branch.  Then I moved the stencil to the leaf piece, lined it up over the stenciled trunk and sponged with WV Archival Leaf Green.

I wanted to have something that would unify the linen napkins since I used different images on each one - so I stenciled the same sentiment on each napkin using Wendy's Sentiments Stencil and WV Archival Watering Can Ink.  I also stenciled Wendy's Check Mate Stencil around each image using WV Archival Sky Blue ink.

For this napkin, I stamped the Cone Flower from Wendy's Stamp It Stencil It set twice using Archival Jet Black Ink

Then I used the stencil of the set to color the flower and leaves using WV Archival Cactus Flower and Leaf Green

For the next napkin, I used another Stamp It Stencil It set called In Full Bloom - stamping the image and then stenciling with Tiger Lily and Sun Flower.

Here you can see how the stencil masks the flower and lines up with the stamped leaves so you can color each section separately.

 I'm not sure how well the colors will stand up to washing.   I ironed over the stenciling to heat seal them as suggested by Wendy in her tutorial.

July CAS Mix Up Challenge - Tissue Paper

Yikes -  It's July already!  So it's definitely summer in the northern hemisphere!  If it's hot where you live - get inside with the air-conditioning or fans and get to work on this fun CAS Mix Up challenge!

And here is the card I created using Stamps, Tissue Paper, Paints, Stencils and Rhinestones!

I used Deli paper which is like tissue paper.  I purchased it at a class run by Dina Wakley at a now (sadly) closed craft shop in New Hampshire. I bought 2 packages of it and this is the first time I pulled it out to use again!  

Here are a few photos of my process.

I got out my Gelli Plate (another item I rarely use as I'm not always happy with what I get when I play!)  the Deli sheets and I picked out 3 colors of paint to use -  Paper Artsy Fresco Finish Opaque Chalk Acrylics in Guacamole, Sky and Haystack.

I got out 4 stencils and a stamp - top left - Mosaic Swirl/Dina Wakley, top right - Machinations #5347/Stencil Girl, bottom left - dragonfly stamp from Classics #1 set/Tim Holtz,  middle bottom Intersecting Brick Circle #S137/Stencil Girl, and bottom right - Mid Century Modern Elements #S118/Stencil Girl.

For each stencil -  I brayered color onto my Gelli Plate, put a stencil over it, then laid a deli sheet over it, pressed the paper over the stencil with my hand then pulled off the paper.  Then I removed the stencil and laid a clean sheet of deli paper over the Gelli Plate - smoothed it over with my hand and pulled off the paper -  giving a positive and negative print for each stencil as seen below.  For the stamp - I brayered the paint over the Gelli Plate and stamped the stamp onto the plate then onto the deli paper (I forgot to do a negative printing for the stamp (drat!)

For this card - I chose 3 of the stenciled papers and ripped off small strips.  I followed the instructions on the video- brushing Liquitex Matte Medium onto a 4" x 5 1/4" panel of white cardstock, laying a Deli paper strip over it, and then brushing Liquitex again over the stenciled piece.  I did the same steps for each piece I layered on. I let the panel dry.  Then I cut down the panel so there would be lots of white around it to make it CAS.  I adhered the panel to my card base, stamped on the sentiment and added 3 rhinestones.

This was a fun challenge and showed me I need to play more with my Gelli Plate 

and with Tissue Paper!

Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Hop - Card #4

I've been purchasing so many Coffee/Tea themed stamps and dies - I just had to make another card for the Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Hop so I could use my new stuff!

I just purchased this Drinking the Coffee stamp from Technique Junkies - 

 it CRACKED me up reading it!

I stamped the sentiment directly onto a piece of patterned paper from Water Color Wash Pattern Paper Collection from PTI.   I colored the coffee mug with Ranger Distress Markers in Tea Dye and Spun Sugar.  I layered the panel to an Hibiscus Burst Panel and then onto the Summer Sunrise card base.

Summer Coffee Lovers Bloghop - Card #3

Here's my 3rd card for the fun Summer Coffee Lovers Bloghop!  

The hop runs through Friday June 30 and there are lots of prizes to win!

I made a background panel by rubbing Ranger Distress Oxides in Peeled Paint, Worn Lipstick and Fossilized Amber onto my craft mat, spritzing each color with water and then pressing and dragging my panel over the colors.  

After the panel was dry, I stamped this great image, Framed Coffee for Two by Stamplorations in black ink.  The frame die is Mix and Mat- Herringbone from PTI.   The sentiment stamp is from Ali Express - a company in China.  I added a few rhinestones for sparkle!
