Let's Party!

I made this card for the CAS (Clean and Simple) challenge on Split Coast this week. The challenge was to make a birthday card. I used the fun flags from the It's A Celebration set by Paptertrey Ink. I drew the lines on either side of the sentiment with a black glitter pen and my ruler. It was really hard not to fill in that glaring white space above the flags! but open space is what CAS is all about right?!

My card is also for the Doubledog Dare Challenge I do with a group of SCS friends - Joan Ervin's challenge was to use your favorite color on a card. I don't have a favorite so I just used several colors that I like on the flags! You can see all the DDC cards here. We'd love to have you join in - just put DDC in the keywords when you load your card on Split Coast.

I made a second CAS card using PTI Aqua Mist Card Stock and black ink. This one might be good for those 'scary' 30, 40, 50 or 60 year b'days!

Here is what I stamped inside the cards from the same Papertrey Stamp Set.

I'd like to share a few pics from an actual birthday party! My mother in law, Marjorie, turned 94 on July 6th and we celebrated with a cookout in our back yard over the weekend. Here she is reading her cards (that's DH in the Hawaiian print shirt playing with Daisy our Granddog and that is DS's back.

I made star shaped cupcakes (as well as a few round ones) for her birthday 'cake'. There are patriotic sprinkles on the frosting. The candles flashed her age - you can see the 9 - the other one alternately flashed 4!

I made these fun star boxes for the centerpiece sitting along with the condiments, silverware, napkins and cups!

and we had these pretty paper lanterns hanging from the awning frame. They say Happy Birthday on them. I got them a couple of years ago from a catalogue called "Collections" where everything is one price like $9.99. This is the first time I used them! They have a light bulb in the bottom so I imagine they would look really cute when it got dark out!

These are the favors I made for each of the 'ladies' present at the party - you can see them close up on this post. I filled them with those soft red and white peppermints - Yum! Everyone was thrilled with them!

Thanks for stopping by today!
