A Cat with a Wish

I made today's card using this week's Cas(e) this Sketch.

I've been dying to use this little cat die that I bought over a year ago - I used it here instead of the bird shown on the sketch sample.  My little kitty is sitting on the windowsill of a small gothic window - and the sentiment is cut with a ribbon banner die from Spellbinders.

Today is the 3rd day of my week vacation - we're going to sleep in a little - (we usually get up at 5:30 am so 8 am is late to us!) then we'll putter around the house a bit.  We have prepaid movie tix to see the Lone Ranger at 12:50 - so that will be the event of the day - we also plan to take a ride on the bike path here in town in the early evening when it's a little cooler!

The Cherry Best Polka Dots

My card today is for three challenges -

Over on Split Coast for the Queen for the Day challenge we were to pick a previous queen from the A-B list (SCS names that start with A or B).  I chose Arizona Maine - I love ALL of Angela's creations but but finally chose to Case her You Touched My Heart card. I used cherries instead of hearts and added color to the stampings.

akeptlife is today's Featured Stamper at SCS and I chose to CASE her Cherry Best Card.  And while I LOVE all the bright colors Jeanne always uses on her creations - I used the same stamps but made mine very CAS - with a simple red/green/black color palette - omitting her layers of DP and the bow - just adding a rhinestone to the end of the stem.

I'm also entering this in the Cas-ual Fridays Challenge - Polka dots.

We are suffering through another heat wave here in MA - with temps in the 90's and high humidity - that is supposed to continue to at least mid-week.

Today is the 2nd day of my week's vacation - this morning I sweated through church and then stayed in my stamping room working on this card and another creation that I'll post soon.  Poor Kent was out mowing the lawn - but now we are heading out to Target and then to Not Your Average Joe's for supper and then we might head over to Lynn Beach and walk along the ocean after the sun goes down!

Your Best One Yet

Today's card was made using this weeks Freshly Made Sketch.

 

I used a piece of pretty designer paper from Kaiser Craft for the background .  I embossed the blue panel with a checkerboard embossing folder after stamping the sentiment from Papertrey Ink..  The felt flower is from Maya Road.

Today's my first day of a week's vacation.  Started off having my hair cut - and now Kent and I are off to a Greek Festival nearby in Ipswich, MA!  Hoopa!!!

Neon Birthday

I made this bright little birthday card for this weeks Cas-ology challenge - cue card NEON

I think this fits the bill - don't you?!   You almost need to put your sunglasses on to look at it!  I had this wonderful neon sticky back paper in orange and yellow.   My father was an artist and this paper was in the folder of papers that I have from him.

I adhered a square of the neon orange onto the white card base.  I die cut a square of the neon yellow with the small circle burst die from Memory Box and layered it over the orange.  Then I just stamped the sentiment from Woot Woot by Cas-ual Fridays Stamps in the center of the circle.

Kent and I are on vacation next week -  we're planning day trips to Newburyport, MA, visiting a cousin in Eaton Center, New Hampshire - catching some movies at the theater (The Lone Ranger is 1st on the list!) and going on bike rides and I'm sure I'll get a little extra stamping in as well - can't wait!

The Color Throwdown - 5 Year Celebration!

As a past Guest Designer for the Color Throwdown,  I'm excited to be participating in their 5 year celebration today!  Here are the beautiful summery colors for the challenge:

My stamps are from Teeny Trees and Country Labels 4 by Waltzingmouse.  I dry embossed a square Nestability on the card base for a frame.  Then I stamped on a white card stock panel that fit inside the frame.  I adhered the panel to the card with foam dots for more dimension.  I could use this card as a get well, birthday, or thinking of you card.

Keep Calm and Craft On

I am struggling with the new Mixed Media Color challenges that Mona and Sue are running every other Friday -  I love the idea of using all kinds of paints, sprays and pastes on projects -  but it is not yet coming naturally to me -  I think, when I sit down,  I'm trying to copy examples I have seen - and, of course, when it's not natural, it doesn't come out well!!

After several false starts -  I pushed everything off my work table and started again. The hardest thing for me is to wait for the different mediums to dry - as I usually only have a little time for stamping/crafting between work, church and keeping up the garden!   I need to learn to set aside more small pieces of time so the layers can dry!

For this week - the colors to use were yellow, pink and peach.

So - starting with a piece of colored card stock and adding one element at a time I finally created this mixed media piece.  I used acrylic paint and Walnut Ink spray for my two media elements.

I brushed pink acrylic paint over the peachy card stock, then added the dots using bubble wrap with yellow acrylic paint.  I stamped the grid in the corner with black ink as well as the sentiments.  I die cut the Keep Calm stampings with Labels 20 Nestabilities and sponged it before taking it out of the die.  Then I sprayed the whole thing with Cherry blossom Walnut Ink.

 It's a 6x6 piece - and it sort of speaks to my creative issues in learning a new craft!   I will hang this over my work table to remind myself to keep calm and just let the creative juices flow where they will!!

The Keep Calm stamps are from We are Memory Keepers - the sentiments are from Clearly Sentimental  about Art by MFT.

I think with each project, this Mixed Media craft will come easier to me - and until I find 'my' style - I will just KEEP CALM AND CRAFT ON!

A Little Rain Must Fall

Here's a quick card I made for the Addicted to CAS challenge -  Code Word Water.

My stamps are from Asian Gardens Additions by Waltzingmouse.  I stamped the sentiment in black and the rain in Ranger Distress Weathered Wood.   I dry embossed a square in the card base, then stamped on a white panel and layered it inside the frame with foam dots. I love this technique - so pretty AND easy to do!
