As Carefree as a Seagull

I'm excited to be posting my Seize the Birthday card today as the Surprise Party Guest, having been one of the winners with my card for the Fancy Fold  #307 challenge

I opted for the food option on my card - using the Happy Seagull Die set from Waffle Flower.

If you live near or vacation at the ocean you know how adept seagulls are at sweeping down and stealing food from unwary beach goers!  We live 3 miles from the ocean and most of our mall parking lots that have food stores in them have seagulls sitting on the tall parking lot lights waiting for someone to drop some food!

This guy (or gal!?) is walking off with a whole beach bucket full of fries at the beach!

I embossed the background with Wave Pierced A2 cover plate from Honey Bee and then rubbed ink pads over the sand and sea/sky areas with Ranger Distress Scattered Straw and Speckled Egg.  All the die cuts and sentiment are up on foam dots.

So please join us at Seize the Birthday making it just a birthday card - or using the optional Food &/or Drink!  You'll find the challenge here.

And thank you to Nancy at Seize the Birthday for inviting me to be a surprise party guest!

Inkspirational Challenge #299 - CAS Loss of Pet Sympathy

Inkspirational Challenge #299 has just been posted - and it is Clean and Simple with the optional twist - Inspired by a Movie.
As I was just getting ready to make my Design Team card for this challenge, a friend asked if I could create a card for her friend who just lost her sweet little dog, Tessa,  to cancer.  So I went with Clean and Simple on my card and did not do the optional twist of being inspired by a movie.
My friend said she didn't know what kind of dog Tessa was but she was a little white 'fluff ball' with black eyes.  So this little pup on my card was the closest dog image I had to fit that description!
The pup is from Dog Kisses by Stampendous.  The sentiment is from Rainbow Bridge by Honey Bee.

If I was going to be inspired by a movie - it could have been Hotel for Dogs:  the film tells the story of two orphaned siblings (living in foster care), who secretly take in stray dogs along with their family dog at a vacant hotel.

I didn't see the movie - but they have some white 'fluff ball' dogs on their poster!

So, please join us and link up your Clean and Simple Card (maybe inspired by a movie?) over at Inkspirational!

You have until Oct 6th to link up!

A Carrot or 7 Cookies?

I just received some Happy Mail and wanted to use some of it right away and made this card.

I used a blender brush to ink lightly though the Leaves in the Wind stencil from Carabelle.  I die cut the carrot - Lovely Layers Carrots from Honey Bee - adhered the pieces together and layered it over the stenciling.  I stamped the sentiment, Eat 7 Cookies from Rubbernecker, next to the carrot.

It's a hot summer's day here in MA today 85 degrees!

But it's fleeting - we're predicted to be back in the 50's over the weekend - CRAZY!!

September CAS Christmas Card Challenge

Today, the September CAS Christmas Card Challenge has been posted.  Hideko is our talented hostess this month and she would like us to use Sparkle and/or Shine on our CAS creations this month!

Here's the card I created - a sparkly Christmas tree with 3 shiny gems!

I made the tree using Layered Pine Bigz die from Tim Holtz/Sizzix, cutting one piece of green glitter paper and the other layer from blue glitter paper.  I used Pierced Fancy Flakes Cover Plate from Honey Bee Stamps for the background, giving interest but keeping it CAS.  The sentiment is from Simple Strips: Christmas cut with Simple Strips from Taylored Expressions.  I splattered the tree with a white POSCA pen.  I added 3 clear gems and popped the tree up on foam dots.

So please join us this month and link up your CAS Christmas card full of Sparkle and/or Shine!  You'll find the challenge here, along with lots of inspiration from the design team and our lovely September guest designer, JoAnn!

Gift Boxes for Mother's Day

A friend commissioned me to create some Mother's Day gift boxes to put small gifts in for her mother-in-law, and daughters-in-law.

I have lots of Eileen Hull/Sizzix container dies (having just retired from her wonderful Design Team after 6 years) and so made up a few undecorated containers so she could choose size and shape.  My friend wanted a flower/bee theme on all of them as she was giving at least one of the receivers some honey!

She said it was ok to use the same general design on all of them - which made it easier for me!

I made a sunflower for each of the projects below using a beautiful die from Honey Bee Stamps called Lovely Layers Sunflower.  I die cut them out of yellow textured paper and then sponged over them with Wild Honey Distress Ink to add depth to the petals.  I cut the leaves out of a textured green cardstock and sponged the center of them with Peeled Paint Distress Ink to highlight the veins.

I made bees for all of the projects using the Fireflies die from the Greetery - cutting them from white cardstock and coloring the bodies with Copics to make them look like bees.

I die cut bows for all of the projects with Put a Bow On It die and stamped the sentiment from Put a Bow On It stamp set - both from the Greetery.

I die cut all of the boxes out of Little Sizzles Matboard from Sizzix.  I added DP to all of the boxes, some of the pieces I cut with the die and some I just cut panels to fit. (I don't like to wrap DP around corners as sometimes it creates a gap - so I cut pieces for each square or rectangle side instead.)

Here are the gift boxes I created.

First up is this sweet little box made using Eileen Hulls Sizzix Bag Caddy Die (retired).  I cut it out of Sizzix Matboard and covered it with a Teal Bumble Bees DP from Michaels.  I added the stamped die cut bow to the top and the sunflower on the front.  I didn't add any leaves to this sunflower since the area was so small and it was fun to see this pretty paper!

I decorated the back of each container the same way with Sentiments Squared Stamps and dies from The Greetery.  The sentiment strip was cut with Simple Strips Die from Taylored Expression.

I used Eileen Hull's Sizzix 3D Teacup Bigz die for my second project.  The die also cuts the tea bag and spoon.  I added twine to the teabag and sponged it with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  I pressed the spoon onto a Versamark Ink pad and embossed it with Platinum Ultra Thick Embossing Powder.

My friend ordered 4 boxes cut from Eileen Hull's Sizzix Gift Box Scalloped Edge Die.   I didn't fold the back piece of the box on the scoreline so it stood up as a tall back and I cut off the tab on the top edge.  I added the two scallop pieces from the die to the top edge (the small scallop adhered over the larger scallop at the score edge).  I made these boxes all the same but used different papers.

This one was made with a yellow background with white dots DP - I sponged randomly over it with Wild Honey Distress Ink to tone down the white dots a bit.

I covered this box with a Hexagon DP from American Crafts.

I made the last two boxes with this fun bee paper from American Crafts.  The paper had a white background with the black bees, and I thought the bees looked a little scary against the white (!) -  so I sponged randomly over the paper with Wild Honey Distress Ink to make the bees look more friendly!?

Design Tip - I wanted to share how I reinforced the bottom side edges of this Scalloped Edge Gift box.
The Design of the die cut only secures the front and back edges of the bottom of the box when you assemble it and there can be a little gap on the bottom sides depending on how sturdy the  matboard you use is.
The Little Sizzles I use is very sturdy, but I wasn't sure how heavy the items might be that she was going to put in the boxes, so I die cut 2 more of the larger scallop edge on the die, folded them on the score line and adhered them inside the box on both sides using ScorTape, so the flat edge is adhered to the bottom of the box and the scalloped edge is adhered to the side, holding the sides to the bottom of the box.
(I hope this makes sense to you......)

My friend was very happy with these Mother's Day gift boxes!

The Promised Spring

Looking ahead to the promised spring and working on my Easter/Spring cards!

I've had this lovely Magnolium Die from Aexandra Renke for over a year and felt it was time to finally get it out and use it.
I also added a bow from Fit to be Tied from the Greetery. I layered it over an oval die cut that I embossed with a Spring Leaves A2 Pierced Cover Plate from Honey Bee. (the piercing doesn't show up too well in the photo , you can see it mostly in the center).
I layered the oval to a panel I embossed with the Weathered Embossing Folder from Taylored Expressions.
I die cut that panel with Stitched Rectangle Scallop Frames from MFT. The sentiment is from an older Papertrey Ink set - Mega Mixed Messages.
I went over the die cut stems with gray and pink watercolor pencils just a bit to add a little depth.

A Socially Distant Hug

Those of us living through this pandemic will certainly never forget it and we'll be telling the stories to our children and grandchildren about schools and shops closing and having to stay at home, and not being able to find toilet paper!

There are also many products we can purchase having to do with these times and the fun stamp and die set, Hang In There, recently released by Honey Bee Stamps is one of those things.
Inside, I couldn't help myself, I had to use the fun toilet paper roll included with the set.
The quote sentiment is from Impression Obsession and the How's it Going stamp is from PTI.
The roll of TP is popped up on foam dots.
The pretty floral papers are from the Spring Fling 6x6 Paper Pack from Lawn Fawn.
The bunnies are colored with Copics and popped up on foam dots.
I made 8 of these cards and have sent them to some people in my church - just to keep in touch while we are not able to meet on Sundays.

I'm linking my card to:

My scallop edge has dots in it, and there are dots in the DP as well as the cheeks of the bunny!
