H&M Sketch Challenge - A Solid Foundation

I made this card for the H&M Saturday Sketch Challenge - see the link below -

We'd love to have you join in too! There is a prize from Heather for the winner!

We did this challenge on Friday this week since we're doing a fun blog hop on Saturday and didn't want to get the two things mixed up!This cozy cottage stamp is from the H&M stamp set Old English. Don't you just love it? the set also has a front view of a cottage, a tower and a whole bunch of sentiments.

The tree designer paper is called Offbeat by Basic Grey and the background layer dp is Stampin Up. I got this great rick rack in a ribbon shop in Wolfeboro, NH last summer.

So - come check out the Sketch/Color challenge on Heather's Blog and join in the fun!

and be sure to check back here on Saturday for the H&M Blog Hop where all the DT members will be sharing some wonderful holiday decoration ideas!

Is Frosting in the 5 Food Groups? and a Travel Napkin

My first card today is for the weekly Double Dare Challenge I do with some SCS friends. Joan Ervin was our hostess this week and she challenged us to make a card with plenty of sugar and calories - something good to eat!

I thought this fun sentiment stamp by Inkadinkado (don't try the cupcake - go for the frosting, happy birthday. Liam Holland Age 8) and yummy little cupcake by Lockhart Stamps would fit the bill!

Remember when you just lapped the frosting off cupcakes and then didn't eat the cake?!?!?! Or was I the only one that did that?!?!?

You can check out all the high calorie cards here!!

Stamps: sentiment: Inkadinkado, Cupcake: Lockhart Stamps
Paper: white, PTI, Ballet Blue, Real Red: SU, DP: basic grey Cupcake
Ink: onyx black versafine
Accessories: SU markers, coffee ice stickles, hole punch, nestability circles, foam dimensionals

My second card was for Today's Try a new Technique challenge on Split Coast that was to use a decorative paper napkin on your card.

These are the Lynn's instructions: Supplies:
Decorative Napkin
Freezer Paper (the white stuff with a waxy coating on the backside)
Iron
A piece of scratch or copy paper
Other cardstock and supplies you would like to complete your project.

First start by unfolding your napkin and if it is a multi-ply napkin, carefully pull the layers apart so that you only have the top decorative layer for your project. Cut a piece of freezer paper a little larger than your napkin (about 1/2 to 3/4") Heat your iron while you first lay your freezer paper, shiny side up, on your ironing board.

Next, lay your decorative napkin (pretty side up) onto your freezer paper, then lay your copy paper on top of your napkin.

Heat with your iron (set on medium - no steam) for about 15 to 30 seconds, moving your iron over the copy paper, applying gentle pressure until your napkin is adhered to your freezer paper.

Now just apply your pretty napkin to your cardstock, (just like you would if you were using patterned paper) and complete your project as desired.

I used this pretty scenic napkin that I got on a summer vacation on Prince Edward Island. I thought it looked so lovely - I didn't add anything accept the sentiment under the image.

I must say that I had some issues with the napkin separating from the freezer paper when I put the double sided adhesive on the paper. So I think I need to play around with the ironing bit a little - maybe I ironed it too long? Most of it stuck together - just a few areas pulled apart and I just put some adhesive between the layers and stuck it back down! I think it's a great new technique for a different kind of card though and worth another shot to get the technique down pat.

That's it from me today - I appreciate your stopping by!

Saturday I'll be participating in the H&M Design Team Blog Hop - all the DT members are making lovely holiday decorations to inspire you - so be sure to come by this Saturday - Nov 1!

Stamps: Sentiment: Simple Little Things: PTI
Paper: Kraft, Ruby Red: SU
Ink: Onyx Black versafine
Accessories: decorative paper napkin, freezer paper, iron, sheet of typing paper

Percy & Frosty bring you Winter Wishes

Today's featured stamper on Split Coast is Kay (Speedystamper) you must check out her lovely gallery! I chose this Thanksgiving card of hers to CASE. (Copy and selectively edit)I changed the orientation of the card - I used a Winter theme instead of thanksgiving with different stamps and colors - but was inspired by her wonderful sketch.

I used this fun Percy Builds Frosty stamp from H&M Stamps that you can see here: There are other fun Percy stamps too so check them all out while you are looking! And Heather has reduced the prices on ALL of her stamps - whoo hoo!!

I used my SU markers for coloring to match my designer papers and added silver stickles to make the snow sparkle.

Congraulations to Kay today! And thank you for stopping by my blog!

I used the H&M Stamp set called 'Create A Bulb' as well as a sentiment from the 'All I want for Christmas Sentiments' set. I love these colors together! I used Ocean Tides and Vintage Cream(PTI), Purely Pomegranate and Handsome Hunter (SU) and the Designer Paper is Basic Grey Figgy Pudding.
Here is the sketch and the colors There are keyword codes inside the circle for you to use if you post your card on SCS. HMSC19 for the sketch and HMCC20 for the colors.
A reminder - that Heather has reduced the prices on all of her stamps so be sure you hop over and take a look at all her wonderful sets at the lower prices!

If you've been reading the last few posts on my blog - you know that I've been preparing for my church fair this week - well it opened tonight 7-9 PM and will be open tomorrow 9am-2pm.
Here are a few pictures for you.

These are the official greeters to shoppers as they enter the church building. This is the Bake Table - Yum!- Dibby and Cathy are selling tonight with the able assistance of their granddaughters. We also had a pie social downstairs with pie, ice cream and beverages.

And here is the D'Vine Card Table - Jeannine, me and Elizabeth - we make everything on this table - all stamped in some way or another! The three of us also run monthly Card Stamping workshops where everyone makes 4 cards - all supplies and instructions included with the $10 charge - with profits going to the church. Here are baskets of cards and some altered journals. You can see other things I made for this table on my two posts below this one.
This is my God-daughter, Eden, on the right - she will be 3 in two weeks and her 7 year old brother, Destin, on the left (with a removable tatoo on his cheek!). They loved checking out all the toys on the White Elephant table downstairs.

We have a Country Store table at our fair - where they sell bakery bread, home made Boston Baked Beans, Chili, candy, Cider and other items. This is just before we opened - so no people yet!

Above is the Holiday Table where they have mostly Christmas decorations - and lots of them some home made and some store bought and altered!

And this is the Knit Table - where you can find all the latest styles in hats, mittens, scarves and afghans - all very reasonably priced and home made!

We also have a used book table, a jewelry table and a candy table at our fair. We have a lot of fun for the two days of this event!

So - I'm off to bed (phew - long day!) and I'll be up early to get back over there to sell tomorrow - Hopefully we'll have a good crowd - you never know - but the weather is supposed to be sunny until the afternoon so that's good!

Thanks so much for dropping by - and remember to check out Heather's Saturday Sketch challenge - we'd love to have you participate!

Just One Word - Treats!

Today's ways to use it challenge on Split Coast was to use 'just one word' on your project and to use at least a touch of pink in honor of cancer awareness week.I made this dog treat bag to sell at my church fair this weekend. I created the word on my label maker and colored Brutus' collar pink (because he really is an old softy under that gruff exterior!)

The dog is by Rubbernecker (I guess his name is really Spike!) and the paw print is from the Top Dog set by Artful INKables.

Remember - you can get 10% off your total Artful INKables order by using my code SAVE10JA when you check out. It's also in the Artful Inkables box in the right column.

I'm off to bed - I'll be at the church fair Friday night and all day Saturday - so I need to get a little rest now if I can!!

Thanks so much for coming by today!

Sharing Some Fun Crafts I've Found

My church's Harvest Fair is this weekend and I've been feverishly finishing up some crafts to sell on the De-vine Cards table two friends and I have at it.

I'm always searching blogs and web sites for fun and fairly easy (but cute!) ideas for things to make for the fair. And this little bird house I found on Nicole Heady's blog sure fits the bill! Isn't this just the sweetest little thing. I totally cased this one - making it pretty much exactly the way Nicole did - (I just changed the tag and used red twine as a hanger instead of natural) and she suggests you could make Halloween houses, Easter Houses - you could add trellises, flowers, fences etc - your imagination is the limit!

So of course I made 10 of them (!) These are little - about 2" x 3.5" or so. The roof and platform are made with rectangle and square nestabilities. Nicole posts the pattern for you to download here. The stamps used are all Papertrey Ink
My next craft quest was a single vial holder for the great Martha Stewart vials that they have at Michaels this Halloween season (I even got mine half price!! whoo hoo!!) I have seen several containers that hold 3 or 4 vials but for selling at the church fair (where everything is marked very reasonably - as in cheap!) I wanted something to hold one. I searched in the SCS gallery under 'candy' and lo and behold - I found EXACTLY what I was looking for - she even used the same vials that I had that are 1" in circumference.
So - of course I made 10. (!) This design is by Lisa Somerville and you can see the instructions here.
I used Cosmo Cricket designer papers and the stamps are Spooky Sweets II by Papertrey Ink.

Then I found these fun treat bags designed by Heather Nichols again using the Spooky Sweets II set by Papertrey Ink. I used white craft ink to stamp the snowflakes on the bags instead of acrylic paint and it worked really well. I also put some purple crinkle basket filler paper inside the bags along with the fun chocolate 'eyeballs' I got at CVS.

So of course I made 10 (!) That seems to be my magic number when making crafts to sell at the fair!

And my final project to share with you is my little paper LL Bean-like bags that I posted some time ago here. I got the pattern in a book that I reference in my previous post.

I dressed them up a little for the holidays - again using some Papertrey Ink stamps as well as a Penny Black snowflake. I'll probably put a little bag of candies in these - And yes - I did make 10 (!) but had no strength left to put them all in my photo box to get a picture!

I may not be posting for a few days - tomorrow we are decorating the church hall with giant cardboard fall leaves and putting paper around all the tables - then Thursday we're setting up all the 'stuff' to sell on the tables - and Friday night and Saturday is the fair - I'll be sure to take some pics to share back here with you all!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Let me know where you are finding fun craft ideas!!

A Chocolate Bunny and a Vintage Prints Christmas

Saturday's inspiration challenge on Split Coast was an ETSY webb site by Joom who makes beautiful pillows. I was inspired by this chocolate bunny pillow here:
And this is the card I made.
I used a Martha Stewart lacy punch for the edges and a bunny and flower stamp by Artful INKables. The vase is an oval nestability that I cut the top off, turned around the cut off piece and attached it to the larger piece to create the opening of the vase. I did a lot of sponging and doodling on the edges and all the images are up on foam dimensionals!

You can get 10% off all your purchases at Artful Inkables by using my code SAVE10JA when you check out - so hop on over to see the fun sets and charms Kristin has to offer you!

Stamps: Deer Friends, Pressed Flower Petals, Basic Salutations: Artful INKables
Paper: vintage cream: PTI, close to cocoa: SU
Ink: Onyx black versafine, close to cocoa - SU, Dark Chocolate: PTI
Accessories: lacey border punch: Martha Stewart, Oval Nestability, cuttlebug, Prismacolor markers, foam dimensionals, circle punches

My second card is for the Featured Stamper challenge on Split Coast who this week was Emily (Ink-E) who is just 18 years old. I had not been in her gallery before and found some very lovely cards there! I chose this card of hers to case.

Being in my 'I need to get my Christmas cards done now' mode (!) - I changed the sentiment to a Christmas one and used Holiday Vintage Prints designer paper by Papertrey Ink.
I used my 1.25 inch square punch from Creative Memories to punch the perfect sized squares and attached them to the Vintage Cream card stock from PTI. I stamped the sentiment twice - once in gold pigment ink (Colorbox) then in Pure Poppy (PTI) -cut out the oval sentment part of the poppy one and layered it onto the gold one with a foam dimensional.

Then I wrapped the pure poppy satin ribbon around it placing the cut ends under the sentiment and done! This is nice and thin for mailing too!

Congratulations to Emily on being Featured Stamper today I'm sure she had a wonderful day looking at all the CASE's of her cards!!

Now I'm off to my stamping room to make 10 more of these pretty cards!

Thank you for stopping by my blog today!

I made this one for the Mad for Plaid Challenge on Split coast where we had to use plaid on our card. I used Kraft for my card base and Basic Grey Two Scoops plaid for my background and just stamped the sentiment from Papertrey Ink right on it.

I was going for the simple homespun look. I added a punched snowflake (Martha Steward) and brad (Making Memories) . Then I just tied the ribbon (Stampin Up) around the top. This will most likely be one of my Christmas cards this year as I like how it looks and it was really quick in getting together!

I've been meaning to get started on my Christmas cards - so this was the day!

The Promised Back Pack Tutorial

I finally got all the pictures and instructions together for this promised tutorial for these fun little back packs.

Several people have posted instructions for these on Split Coast and on blogs - I found it on this blog inkingidaho but added more measurements and a more detailed description of putting it together. Be sure and check out her blog - she has a lot of fun tutorials listed!

The size of this backpack is 3 ½” x 3” x 1 ¾”

Supplies:

1 – 8 ½” x 11” piece of card stock for bag (see under Instructions below for how to cut this up)
2 ¾” x 1 7/8” designer paper for large flap (if using 2 different dp’s on your back pack this is #1 color)
1 7/8" x 7/8" designer paper for small pocket flap (#1 color)

2 ¾” x 3 ¼” designer paper for front panel (#2 color)

1 7/8” x 1 3/8” designer paper for small pocket panel (#2 color)

Double sided super tacky tape

Regular double sided adhesive

Two 6” pieces of 1/2” wide twill to coordinate with card stock for shoulder straps

One 4 ½” piece of 1/4” grosgrain ribbon to coordinate with card stock for top loop

1/8” hole punch

¼” hole punch

Small piece of Velcro

Glue Dots

Scor Pal

Scissors

Buttons or stamps to decorate as desired.

White Gel Pen

Snow flake stamp

Ink to match CS

Instructions:

Cut card stock to 10 ¼” x 5 ¼” (keep the cut off piece for the pockets as per below)

With 5 ¼” side along top of score pal - score at 3 ½”

Turn cardstock and with 10 ¼” side along top - score at 3”, 4 ¾”, 7 ¾” and 9 ½”
(since most of these measurements aren’t marked on scorepal – I marked them with a pencil first then lined the dots up to a score line.)

Cut on the shorter score lines up to the 3 ½” crosswise score – cut off the ¾”x 3 ½” piece on the end.

Fold on all score lines.

You can see the scores and cuts on this picture - I made short pen marks on the ends of the score lines just to show you where they are- these are not cuts - the only cuts are along the bottom edge.

Cut and score the following from the left over piece of cardstock for the flaps and pockets

Backpack Flap - 2 15/16” x 2 ½ (the first measurement is just shy of 3” it has to fit inside the backpack) score at ½” on one long side only

Pocket – 3” x 2” score at ¼” and ½” on three sides. Leave one long side unscored. Cut off corners. Fold on score lines.

Pocket Flap - 1 ½” x 2” score at ¼” and ½” on one long side only.
The top piece is the little pocket - the bottom left piece is the little pocket flap and the bottom right piece is the back pack flap (I marked the ends of the score lines with a pen so you could see them better - they are not cuts.

Trace rounded edges on the backpack flap and the pocket flap by placing the round tape roll over the piece and drawing the curve. Cut the curves. You could also use a Coluzzle or anything round.
Place the appropriate piece of designer paper over both flaps and trace the curves. Trim to make these slightly smaller than the flaps and attach to flaps.

* If you are stamping the little pocket flap instead of using DP - stamp it now.

Attaching the straps:

On the end of the back pack piece without the narrow end flap – on the bottom - make two dots with a pencil - ½” up from bottom and 3/4” in from each side – punch two holes with ¼” punch over your dots.

On the top – mark 2 dots with a pencil ¾” down from top and 1 ¼” in from each side.

Put the two ribbons through the holes (one on each side) and attach to the inside of the back pack using tacky tape. Make sure the outside loops are even and not twisted.

Attach the large flap to the top inside of the back pack above the shoulder straps

You can see the placement of the tacky tape on this picture - the middle large panel is the front of the backpack and that bottom piece should be the last piece folded up and attached so you see the fold from the front of the pack. You can just slightly see the piece of tape on the small panel on the right - it's on the front as it will fold in and attach to the piece with the ribbons on it. You can also see the velcro piece at the top of the large flap. I put both sides of the velcro piece here( the fuzz and the loops) - then removed the backing and closed the backpack - that way the pieces will be lined up perfectly.

Attaching the top loop

Measure 1” in from each side right on the fold of the flap.
Using a 1/8” hole punch if you have it – or a ¼” hole punch, punch the two holes.
Put the ¼” ribbon through the holes and attach the ends to the inside using super tacky tape.

Attach the large piece of designer paper to the front panel of the back pack. (the dotted paper shown here)

Taping up the back pack.

Put super tacky tape along the outside of the narrow end tab on the inside edge, and on the bottom panels. The flap under the front of the back pack will be the last flap you fold up as you want the fold showing from the front - not an open edge. Line up your edges nice and even as you attach them.

Attaching the little front pocket

Fold the scored edges of the little pocket. Attach strips of tacky tape to the three sides. If you have 1/8" tacky tape that is a better fit on this small pocket. If not - 1/4" will work. Pull off the paper of the tacky tape on the pocket and attach the flap to the open edge of the pocket. Put tacky tape on the back edge of the pocket flap. Pull off the paper and attach the pocket with the flap to the front bottom of the back pack - even with the bottom edge.

Squeeze the sides of the backpack together (front to back) while pushing in on the sides near the top to bring it in at the top.

Attach small pieces of Velcro under both flaps.

Add a button to center of top flap if desired. Or you could add a flower or something stamped and cut out.

The flaps can also be stamped instead of using DP.

So there you go - I hope I didn't leave anything out - it's a long tutorial as there are a lot of steps - hope I didn't totally confuse you!

I'd love to see the back packs that you create! I'm sure you will all think of many different fun ways to decorate these for different events. Please link them back here so I can check them out!!

A Ballet CD Dare

First - please check out my blog candy post here - you have until Friday 10/17 to enter!

I made this project for the color challenge on Split Coast and the Double Dare Challenge I do with a group of SCS friends each week. I was the hostess this week and my challenge was to make a CD case using the SCS tutorial by Cindy Lyles seen here:

This was so simple and fun. The color challenge (Pink Pirouette, Basic Black, white) made me immediately think of ballet - both the word and the color! I used this pretty little dancer from the H&M set - Livin' the Girls Life. I colored her with inks and my aquabrush and added gems and pearls. I punched the butterflies and added gems there too.The sentiment is cut with a Spellbinders ribbon tag and the pretty satin ribbon is Papertrey Ink.

I know when I was young and taking Ballet lessons - we were given little records of the songs we danced to - so I'm thinking today's little ballerina might have a CD of their music. So here is a fun little case for her to keep it in!

I decorated the back opening with some Pink Pirouette cardstock punched with the Fiskars Threading water punch and another piece of the pretty satin ribbon. You use a piece of Velcro to keep it closed.
Heather has reduced all the prices on her stamps - so be sure to go over and take a look.
Check here to see the other girls Double Dare entries.
Thanks for coming by today - I hope you try making one of these CD cases - let me know if you do!

Step into the Forest

First - please check out my blog candy post here - you have until Friday 10/17 to enter!

What a wonderful new technique we learned at Split Coast this week ! I've never done a Stair Step fold card before - have you? If not - I hope you'll try this out! These were Lynn's simple instructions: "Cut your cardstock to the size of 10.5 X 5.0 - if you want to stamp on this, now would be the time to do it. Score your cardstock at 1.25" - 2.5" - 4.25", 6" and at 8.25" Now fold with hills and valleys (accordion style) making sure that the smallest (1.25" fold) is folded down, as this will be the front of your card."

Here's a side view of my card to show the folds.

I made a forest theme card using a set from Artful INKables called Critter Country. I also used several punches - Cosmos flower, oak leaf, and butterfly all by Martha Stewart and the Key Tag punch from Stampin Up for the sentiment. I sponged the flowers and leaves. All the images are up on foam dimensionals.

Isn't this a great way to add a whole new dimension to our cards?!

Remember - you can always get 10% off your Artful INKables order if you use my code SAVE10JA when you check out. The code is always posted in the right hand column on my blog. Kristin has some wonderful new charms available and she's going to be getting some ribbons soon too!

A Case of A Cookie Card - A Class - and Blog Candy!

I've got lots to share with you today so stick with me on this longish posting!

First up will be my card for today's Featured Stamper on SCS - Anne Ryan's gallery was featured today and I chose this lovely card to CASE.

When you CASE a card you have to change at least 2 things - I used different stamps (but still the fun cookie theme!), I put the ribbon across the top instead of side and I used slightly different colors.

The gal holding the yummy try of cookies is from the H&M set 'Christmas is the Time for Cookies' and the sentiment is from the 'All About Birthdays' sentiment set. I stamped the cookies again on a scrap - colored and glittered them, then layered them over the main image. I also sponged and glittered the edges of the sentiment which is also up on foam dimensionals. I sponged over the scored lines on the cream panel with Bashful Blue ink to highlight the scoring.

Stamps: Christmas is the Time for Cookies, All About Birthdays sentiment: H&M Stamps
Paper: Bazzill Blue, brown and cream, Vintage Cream: PTI
Ink: Onyx Black Versafine, Bashful Blue: SU
Accessories: ScorPal, Prismacolor markers, Copics, key tag punch: SU, curly label punch: SU, wide satin ribbon: unknown, Palette Stamp & Stick Pad, glitter: JoAnn's

This was the terrific fall view on my drive up Rte 93 from Massachusetts to New Hampsire yesterday to get to the Papertree where I was teaching a class yesterday. And no - I didn't make those skid marks in front of me!! Yikes!

I snapped these pics out my windows as I was driving along (oops! at least I wasn't on my cell phone! ) - it was so beautiful I just had to capture it. It was a perfect warm sunny day and the colors were on fire!
And here is the fun group at the Papertree that came to my class - each holding the first back pack we completed. From the bottom front left - that's Connie, then Dawn, Sandy, Marge, Gail, Charlotte, Janice and Priscilla - Marilyn was too shy to be in the picture. So a shout out to you gals! Didn't we have a fun morning!

As I showed you yesterday - these are what we made and I'll be posting instructions later this week once I get my act together.
And now as promised - BLOG CANDY! - I made 40,000 hits on my blog a few days ago and I am just so very thankful for and grateful to all of you who come by and have become my friends here - I'm offering blog candy for two lucky winners. Package #1 and Package #2.

Package #1 above includes Get Wella Bella with the sentiments "Get Wella Bella" and "Hope You Feela Bella", Bridesmaid or bride Bella, and Hula Female Riley (I forget her name?). Also in this package are six 6x6 papers of Basic Grey: Archaic, six 6x6 papers of Basic Grey: Sultry and a roll of Papertray Ink Aqua Mist Satin Ribbon.

Package #2 includes Corvette Bella with sentiment "I admire Your Drive", Bella carrying boxes of shoes, and Easter Egg Riley. Papers include: Six 4x6 Amy Butler double sided papers and six 6x6 pieces of Basic Grey Sultry and a roll of Papertrey Ink and a roll of Papertrey Ink Spring Moss Satin Ribbon.

The stamps are all mounted on easy mount and ready to be used on your acrylic blocks. They are stamps I purchased and then never used so they are out of their packaging and I mounted them on the foam backing.

All you have to do for a chance at one of these two prizes is to leave me a comment here on this post - If you are so inclined I'd love you to link this post on your blog to let people know about my blog candy.

I will pick the two winners Friday night 10/17/08 by Random Number Generator - the first number picked will get the 1st package - the 2nd number picked will get the 2nd package. I'll post the winners on Saturday 10/18/08.

Good luck and as always - thank you SO MUCH for coming by today!!
