Ear Wax, Belly Fuzz and Toe Jam

I hope you aren't eating while you're browsing my blog today!! This is just one of the fun sentiments in a new Halloween set by H & M Stamps to be released Sept 1 called Fright Night.

Congrats to NikiE for being Featured Stamper over on Split Coast today. She has a super gallery. I chose to take this lovely wedding card and make a Halloween card out of it! I changed the colors and stamps but kept the design.

This is one of the cards I'll be selling on a table I'm having at our Town's Founders Day next week. The bookcase shelves have spooky eyes peaking out from the dark spaces, spider webs and bottles of strange concoctions topped off by a rat and a crow!

I realized after I finished the card - that doing the ribbon this way - and using black ribbon - it looks like a bat! I cuttled the background with the text folder and used my rectangle nestabilities for the image. I only colored a few pieces on the image with my Prismacolor marker. I used the oval punch on the sentiment and sponged the edge in black. The image and sentiment are up on foam dimensionals.

A Scarecrow on a bed of Flowers - Sneak Peek!

Today's inspiration challenge over on Split Coast was the artist decorated rooms at the Fox Hotel in Copenhagen Denmark - this is the room I chose for inspiration:

the bedspread was like a field of flowers and the animal person backboard inspired me to create this card.I have been wanting to make the free standing pop up card from the SCS tutorials seen here - and it worked perfectly as a 'bed' for this inspiration! I used the Forest Branches Cuttlebug folder behind the scarecrow to give the feeling of the straw that he's stuffed with. I cut the sentiment with a double ended tag from Spellbinders - added brads and attached with foam dimensionals. I colored the scarecrow with Prismacolor Markers, cut him out and layered him to the cream panel with foam dimensionals.

and it folds completely flat for mailing! The receiver can stand this right up on their counter or desk at work - and be reminded of their good friend, YOU!

This neat scarecrow stamp and sentiment are from a new set by H&M stamps that will be available Sept 1! you can see it here as of Monday

A Flight of Colored Pencils

I'm late loading tonight - I had my hair cut after work and thought I wouldn't be able to stamp - but instead of going to bed - I found myself in my stamping room making this card! The challenge on Split Coast today was to use colored pencils.I stamped the image with white stazon ink - heat dried it - and then colored over it with my Koh i noor woodless colour pencils. Then I outlined with my gel pen - this is the black magic technique found on Stampowl's blog here. (If I do this again I might not do the outlining with the gel pen).

The designer paper is by Imaginisce and has a pretty glitter on some of the stripes. I used my Fiskars scallop punch for the bottom edge. I cut the ovals with my nestabilities. I couldn't find the right sentiment for this card - so I left it off for now.

Now I'm off to bed for real!

Lions and tigers and ............

This is my card for today's sketch challenge over on Split Coast - I needed to make some Halloween cards and this sketch worked out perfectly!

There is no stamping on these cards (accept I stamped Happy Halloween on the inside!)

I have had these randomly sized chipboard black and white letters for eons (which is more than forever!!) in a drawer and recently found them when I was looking for something else! And they are perfect spooky Halloween letters I think! There was enough variety to make all these fun spooky words to go with the pictures on the designer papers that I used.

These wonderful DP's are by Flairdesigns Inc - the Spellbound Collection that I just got here. I cuttled all the dp panels - the two in the back I used Forest Branches on and for the narrow panel I used Swiss dots - just to give the card a little dimension.

Artful Inkables - Wednesday Challenge! Please join in!

Here is my card for this weeks Artful Inkables Design Team Challenge. Kim is our hostess this time and it is a Limited Supplies challenge.

We'd love to have you join in - see the details of how to do that at the end of my post.

These are the Limited Supplies rules:

1. Only use 2 layers in addition to the card base.
2. Only one kind of embellishment allowed (ie - ribbon OR brad)
3. You may use one sentiment
4. No designer paper (!)
5. Your card must be any size of a square.


My card is a 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" square. I used two Cuttlebug folders to emboss the card and one panel. I pierced the edges around the dove and sponged both panels. The image and sentiment are up on foam dimensioinals. I added the ribbon under the panel - cut a piece for a knot and attached it to the ribbon with a glue dot. This pretty Dove is from the newly released Olive You set by Artful Inkables.


I colored my image lightly with Prismacolor markers - filling in the olive branch and just outlining the dove.

So I think this proves that - Yes - you can make a card without Designer paper! Fun Challenge Kim.

An Announcement and a Dreaming Fairy

First - I'm so excited to tell you that as of Sept 1st I am officially on the Design Team for H & M stamps for the next 6 months!!! (you may have noticed the logo on my right side bar?) And starting Monday - I'll be posting a card highlighting a new stamp or set each day for 4 days in a row. So please be sure to come by and check them out - you won't want to miss these!

But - back to the present....... my card today covers two challenges - the color challenge on Split Coast to use Rose Red, Kraft and Black - and the Double Dog Dare challenge I do each Tues with a group of SCS friends. This weeks Double Dare hostess - Joanne (sleepyinseattle) sent us two Stamping Bella Fairy images to chose from to use on a card - we also had to add some glitter - it is a fairy after all!!!

I don't know why - but I don't have many fairy images and I rarely use them - so it was fun playing with this image today! I watercolored her dress using my Rose Red ink pad and my aquapainter and colored the rest with Copics. I outlined it all with a grey Prismacolor marker.

I added the gemstones around her dress and on her flower - and circled her wrists with pearls! (Every girl has to have a string of pearls right?!?!)

I punched the designer paper with my new Fiskars scallop punch which I love ! I'd been trying to get it and I finally found it in stock at All that Scraps. I added the punched butterflies to give some dimension to the card. The kraft card stock is kind of opposite in feeling to a glittery light fairy so I tried to soften it by dry embossing it with the Leafy Branch Cuttlebug folder.

Halloween Treat Bag With A New Technique

Here is my project for the Try a new Technique challenge on Split Coast- Faux Embossing. See the instructions for Faux Embossing here. The basics are - you stamp a silhouette style stamp using White Chalk Ink - then over stamp it with a color - but stamp the color slightly off to the right so it makes the image look 3D or embossed!For the faux embossing technique - I stamped the house and moon with white chalk ink - then overstamped it with Pumpkin Pie - shifting the stamp over to the right just a bit to give the embossed look ( I used my Stamp a ma jig for placement) - It's very subtle on the black but I hope you can see it. It shows up best on the moon in the picture. I stamped the witch and trees just in chalk white for contrast.

I cut the ovals and sentiment with my nestabilities.

This little treat container is called a Diaper Fold or Origami Fold. See the tutorial for it here. It's easy peasy to make - it takes one sheet of 12 x 12 double sided designer paper and folds up in just a minute.

I'm going to sell these on my stamping table at our town's Founders Day in early September. I think they'll be a hit for Halloween treats - don't you?

A Turtle Parade!

I'm SO Excited - my SCS friend Patricia is Featured Stamper over on SCS today - Congrats Patricia!!! She has a super gallery! I chose this card to CASE. (Copy and share with edits)

I changed the size (mine is 3 1/4 x 6 1/2) and stamps but used the line of animals and zig zag stitch and rainbow ink pad. I just swiped the ink pad over the white card stock several times you could also use a brayer for this. The zig zag 'stitching' is done with a stamp by Hero Arts - I had white thread in my machine and didn't want to take the time to switch to black!! (I know -lazy, lazy!!!)

The cute turtle is from Pond Friends by Artful Inkables look how you can see his sweet feet swimming under the water - and what a great little face!! I punched two flowers and layered them together for the sentiment.

An Inspired Martini !

Sounds good to me! (an appletini that is!) This weeks inspiration challenge over at Split Coast was pretty designer umbrellas - I chose this one: I knew I'd use this great designer paper from Papertrey for it and I also used the Floral Fantasy and Swiss Dots Cuttlebug folders. I used the Swiss Dots folder right over the DP.The martini and sentiment are from a new set from Artful Inkables called Olive You. I have started sewing a lot on my cards lately and since I have my machine out - I sewed the edges here. This is a large 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 card! This design is from Fridays Sketchers challenge blog.

I colored the martini image with my Copics markers and outlined it with a grey Prismacolor marker.

I cut my sentiment with a rectangle Nestability and added a couple of gem stones for sparkle!

A Mimosa in an Apron - A Tutorial

My project today is this cute little apron card with a recipe tucked inside the pocket. I have seen these in several places but they have been a larger size - I redesigned mine so that it will fit inside a regular size envelope (4 1/4 x 5 1/2) so I could easily mail it if I wanted to. (It might take an extra stamp because of the knotted ribbon.)I used parts of two of the new sets from Artful Inkables - Orange You Sweet (the drink and 'sweet') and Paradise Island (From My Hut to Yours)

Supplies:

5"x7"card stock for apron - I used Summer Sunrise by PTI

3 7/8" x 1 3/8" Designer paper - I used Bitty Baby Blessing collection by PTI

3"x5" white for recipe card

3 1/2 x 5 1/2 to layer behind recipe - I used Lavender Moon by PTI

white, Summer Sunrise and Lavender Moon scraps for sentiment, oval and scalloped circle.

Tab punch - SU

Scalloped Circle Punch - SU

Oval punch - SU

White gel pen

2 large eyelets

Cropadile

8" of ribbon - I used Lavender Moon Twill by PTI

Scor Pal or other scoring tool

red tacky tape

Coluzzle oval - cutting blade and mat (or you can just cut free hand - see below)

decorations and stamps as desired

Ok - so now that we have everything we need - lets get cracking!

1. Take your 5 x 7 piece of cardstock for your apron.

2. Score at 1/2 inch on each side of the 5" end. 3. Turn your paper and score 1 1/2 inch in on one side only
4. Cut off the 1/2 inch pieces up to the 1 1/2" score line on both sides.
5. Cut the tab corners at an angle.

6. Fold in the tabs on the score lines. Put tacky tape on the edges but don't seal it yet.

7. Move your apron to your coluzzle mat if you have one. Line up the oval on the apron as I show here - the lavender is there just so you can see the oval and how it's placed. If you don't have a coluzzle you could line up a plastic lid or any oval shape to trace here.

8. Cut away the piece.

9. Move the coluzzle oval to the left side and cut away the piece on this side.

10. Your apron should now look like this.

11. Remove the red line and fold up the pocket. Attach the 3 7/8 x 1 3/8 piece of designer paper on the pocket. Attach your eyelets to the top corners as shown. Put the ribbon through the eyelets tying a knot in the back on each end.
Decorate the pocket as desired. Make your recipe card by layering the 3"x5" card onto the 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" card. Attach the tab to the top. I printed my Mimosa recipe from my computer on an Avery Label and attached it to the card. I stamped my drink image on a scrap - colored it with Prismacolor markers - cut it out and attached it to the recipe card. I added gems to the tab and on the drink and the orange to give it a little sparkle.

And the recipe card fits nicely inside the apron for mailing.

Please let me know if you have any problems with the tutorial and I'll try and clarify it.

Let it rip! and a White Dog

It was difficult for me to make this Ways To Use it challenge card - we were to tear something - and that's not my usual style.

I stamped my Rustic Branches from PapertreyInk on a white panel - cut a circle out of an Aqua Mist panel with my nestability, then I embossed with with a Cuttlebug folder - distressed and tore the edges, sponged them - layered it over the white panel and sewed the edges. Phew! I added a piece of vintage lace under the sentiment. The lace is from a box that my dear MIL gave me when she moved out of her house into assisted living so I'm happy to be using it!

Then I layered 2 primas in the corner with a piece of ribbon and a brad. The base card is Kraft card stock. This is a 4.25" x 4.25" card. I'm starting to get a little more comfortable with this shabby chic style!

Here is my card for Kelly's (Schirmcat) VSN challenge (Virtual Stamping Night) over on Split Coast. The challenge is described below:
" for this challenge the book we will be focusing on is "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See?". This book was written by Bill Martin Jr, and illustrated by Eric Carle.

The story goes something like this..."Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see?""I see a red bird looking at me.""Red bird, red bird, what do you see?""I see a yellow duck looking at me."It ends with a teacher seeing children who are all dressed up like the animals listed in the story.

So for my challenge...you need to make a card featuring one of the animals and it's color, as written in the story. Choose one of the following animals, then make your card as colorful, and brilliant as can be! Be creative, and use any stamps, templates, cut-outs, or art materials that you want!

I chose White Dog - using this cute puppy stamp from Artful Inkables fun new set called Top Dog . I stamped his cute little head on a scrap - cut it out and layered it over the main image. Then I outlined the whole image with a Grey Prismacolor marker to make it pop a little. Doesn't it look like he's really missing you!?!?!

I stamped the sentiment in black then sketched over it with the same gray marker - punched it with my circle punch - layered it to a black circle and added the brads and ribbon piece. It's attached to the card with foam dimensionals.

You're One Crazy Cat

Today's guest host for the sketch challenge at Split Coast was Amelia who I think is about 11 years old - her mother is Wendybells on SCS.

This is the sketch she designed for us to use today. Didn't she do a great job?!?!

And here is my card based on the sketch.

I just got my fun new PaperTrey set - Spooky Sweets II and the floral circle stamp worked perfectly for the sketch. I stamped that with Vintage Violet Ink. I used 2 different Halloween designer papers. This card is 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" so the DP's are two 4" squares each cut in half diagonally - so you can make 2 cards!

I cut the big circles with Nestabilities and the sentiment circles with punches. I stamped the crazy cat with black ink in the center and added gemstones for it's eyes, tail and on the sentiment.

The seasons really jump fast in the stamping world huh!?!?! Summer isn't even over yet - but it is supposed to get down to 50 degrees here tonight - and that feels like fall - sleeping with blankets and everything!

Frozey is So Sorry

Here is my funny little 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 card for the color challenge at Split Coast (use blush blossom, close to cocoa, ruby red) as well as the weekly Double Dare Challenge I do with a group of SCS friends. Joan Ervin was the hostess this week and her Double Dare Challenge was to do a 'simple' no layer card. Ha!! NOT SO SIMPLE to do a no layer card - try it!!!I used one of my fun new Doodle Factory guys (Frozey) - who makes me laugh just to look at him! and he really does look So Sorry - doesn't he??? To add a little something to the card - I embossed a frame around him with my Nestability die. I colored him with Stampin Up markers going over it again in certain areas to try and add a little depth to the 'no layers'!!


It is a funny little card - but I'm happy with it!

Enjoy Yourself with a Fizzy Bath

I made this fun little acetate box for the Try a New Technique Challenge over on Split Coast - you can see the directions here.I used a different pattern for the top and bottom than in the instructions - I just cut a 3 inch square and scored it 1/2 inch on each side - like the top on the 3x3 box in last weeks Splitcoast Weekly Inkling seen here:

I thought it came out a little neater. I put eyelets on the punched holes on the cover to add sturdiness and tied knots on the inside ends of the ribbon. The cover slides up the ribbon when you open it.

A lot of people filled their boxes with candies (Yum!) - but I chose to put Bath Fizzy Balls in mine! I got them at Target in the $1 bin a while ago. You can see everyone's fun acetate boxes here.The cute dragonfly is from the 'Thought I'd Bug You' set from Artful Inkables . I stamped the wings on a scrap, colored them with my Copics and attached them to the main image with foam dimensionals. I added the dew drops to go along with the water bath theme!

The circles are cut with my Nestabilities. I put two bath fizzy balls inside my box.

I found this cute coconut cup at my local I Party store on sale for 99cents! - what a deal. Wouldn't this be a fun way to serve drinks at a party!?!?

First I cut out a 2 inch strip of Creamy Caramel card stock and ran it through my crimper. It needed to be 14" so I had to cut out another strip and add it on ( I only had 8x11 paper) - I attached the ends with tacky strip to be sure it held. Then I sponged the edges with Close to Cocoa ink - tied several pieces of raffia around it and slid it over the coconut.

I colored my images with Copics and Prismacolor markers, cut them out and attached them to the band with thick glue dots. I attached the dancer to the straw with a piece of tacky strip.

I also stamped the images on some green napkins to be used at the party along with the cute beverage holders! And "thanks' to Dunkin Donuts for the pretty coordinating orange straw that I used here!

I made my second card for the featured stamper challenge over at Split Coast. Knightrone (Jessie) has a lot of beautiful cards in her gallery! I chose this one to case today. I changed the colors and stamps used but loved her layout which worked perfectly for my pretty new puppy stamp from Artful INKables set Top Dog.

I colored him with close to cocoa re-inker and my aquapainter. I used this fun pet designer paper for my background, two different ribbons and heart brads. For the sentiment - I punched 2 scalloped circles and a white circle and then layed them together with the scallops off set so you can see both colors.I stamped the scarf on a scrap - colored it and attached it over the main image with foam dimensionals.
