Inkspirational #356 - Stencils - Optional Twist of Snowflakes

Here's my card for the newest Inkspirational Challenge - #356 Stencils -  optional twist -Snowflakes!

I used the Optional Twist with snowflake PP and a snowflake stencil!
I used a 'new to me' technique called Stenciling over Patterned Paper - that I saw on FB - there are several tutorials on YouTube if you'd like to see more examples.

This is a pic of the patterned paper I used on the left - the snowflake stencil placed over the patterned paper and inked with Stormy Sky Distress Ink on the right
Here is a photo of the stencil removed - and the snowflake pattern revealed.

I used a light enough ink that the pattern of the paper showed through the sponging as well as under the area of the stencil.

I die cut the sentiment twice and adhered it to the middle of the card,  I die cut the edge with a frame die and added 3 sequin snowflakes.

We hope you will join us over at Inkspirational - and show us how you use stencils on your card design!

This challenge ends Dec 19th.

A Smokey Sage Birthday!

I'm having a table at two local Craft Shows this fall and I'm madly creating to fill my boxes with cards.

So today, I looked to the Color Hues Challenge for inspiration for colors.  Sometimes the colors just do not speak to me -  but today they did!

I used the Folk Flower Layering Stencil from Claire Brennan Design (retired) and a Dots and Stripes Stencil from Wendy Vecchi (also retired).    For the colors I used Ranger Distress Inks Stormy Sky and Bundled Sage.  The sentiment is a Better Press Plate and die set.   I added one enamel dot to the center of the flower.

Inkspirational Challenge #344 - Stencil - Optional Twist Geometric

The 2nd Inkspirational Challenge for June is up over at the blog!

Optional Twist -  Geometric

That Optional Twist reminded me of a stencil I have in my stash from Sweet Poppy Stencils called Absolute Abstracts that I have only used once and thought this was a good time to play with it again! I'm not sure if it's still available.
This is a large metal stencil so I stenciled it onto an 8 1/2" x 5 1/2 piece of card stock using 3 colors - Ranger Distress Speckled Egg, Dusty Concord and Crackling Campfire.
Then I cut the panel in half making two 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" panels that I made into two cards!  A two-fer!

I added the stampings and enamel dots and called them done!   I like to have masculine cards on hand.

So we hope you'll get out your stencils (maybe geometric patterns!) and create a card to link up over at the Inkspirational Blog - where you will also find creative inspiration from the rest of my teamies!

This challenge ends on July 4th!

Inkspirational #340 - Seasonal - I Chose Summer!

I'm here today with my DT card for the Inkspirational #340 Challenge.

I'm eager for the Summer Season to arrive!

I made this card for a friend who goes to Block Island off the coast of Rhode Island every summer for two weeks so I thought he'd appreciate a beach scene on his Birthday Card.

I used a retired stamp and die set from Papertrey Ink called Fence Line Summer.

I stenciled the sky area with the Milky Way Stencil from Colorful Life Designs.

We hope you will be inspired by our Seasonal Challenge, by the rest of the DT's creations and that you will link up your creation over at the Inkspirational Blog!

You have until May 9th to link up your card!

March Group of Seven Cardmakers Post - Product Focus: Embossing Pastes

The Group of Seven Cardmakers are playing with embossing pastes this month, either through stencils, creating backgrounds or maybe you have some creative ways to use it?  There are lots of embossing paste video links over at the GO7 blog as well as on YouTube to inspire you!

I decided to use a stencil with the texture embossing paste to create a rocky beach.

I used the Pool Water Stencil from Papertrey Ink and Granite Distress Texture Paste from Ranger. I stenciled over a piece of Robins Egg Bazzill card and let it dry overnight.

Here are a few photos of the stenciling.

The Pool Water Stencil set has 2 layers, but I just used one of them for my background.  I laid the stencil over the Robins Egg card panel and put masking tape along all the edges to hold it in place.
I've had this Texture Paste for at least 6 months and never opened it - but I have found that pastes dry up if you've had them too long, even if they haven't been opened.

SO this paste was pretty thick and dry looking - but I thought, what the heck, I'll dig out clumps and see if it will smooth out as I spread it - and it did!

(I also threw out about 6 other containers of pastes I've had too long and were completely dried up!)

I kept adding more paste over the stencil until all the spaces were filled and it was as smooth as I could get it over each section of the stencil.   Smooth like stones!
I removed the stencil and washed it and the palette knife immediately.  I left the panel to dry overnight.

The next day, I used a black POSCA pen for the splatter, a no brand die set for the ocean waves, and the Day at the Beach die set from Spellbinders for the woman on the towel. The die cuts are up on foam dots.  The sentiment is from Summer Sentiments Essentials by Ellen Hutson.

For my second card I used Clear Crackle Texture Paste on  die cut pieces of a rooster and a die cut fence instead of through a stencil.  I also sponged over the fence when the crackle was dry, with Lost Shadow Ranger Distress ink to make it look weathered along with the crackle.
The black streaks on the rooster were caused by some dried black paste that was on the very edge of my palette knife from long ago - but I left it as I think it added more visual texture to the 'feathers' of the chicken - happy accident(?)
This Clear Crackle texture paste was also a bit dried out but it was spreadable so off I went to spread it over all of the pieces!
I used colored card for the head and the feet dies. I used Tombow Glue to attach the pieces together, as it is thicker glue and grabbed the dry crackle.

We hope you will be inspired to play with your embossing pastes and if you create something, please link up your card over at the Group of 7 Cardmakers blog where you will also find inspiration from the rest of the GO7!  We'd love to come see what you make!

FYI -  I had surgery on my right shoulder for a torn rotator cuff on March 26th and I'm 6 weeks in a sling so can't stamp or leave comments on your blogs for a bit!
