Playing with Stencils

Today I'm playing with layering stencils.

I layered my stencils on a tag and after finishing it, I cut it into 2 pieces and so was able to make 2 cards!

The first uses a smaller piece and is framed by a stamp.  This is a 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" card.

My 2nd card uses a larger piece of the finished tag and is 4 1/4" x 5 1/2".

Here are photos of the steps I used in creating my layered stencils

First I used white acrylic paint through one of Tim's mini stencils pouncing the ink on with a sponge applicator on a blending tool.

 Be sure to wash your stencil and sponge immediately after use.

then I layered a mini leaf stencil over the words using Distress Dried Marigold ink

I layered a mini grid stencil over the tag using Crushed Olive Distress Ink

I sponged over the edges with Ground Espresso Distress ink

and I sponged over the whole tag with Seedless Preserves and Scattered Straw.  I used a baby wipe over the acrylic paint to remove any ink laying on top of that stenciling.

then I stamped over the stenciling with Archival Jet Black Ink.

I flicked water onto the tag to create water spots.

Eileen Hull Inspiration Team - Stampotique Collaboration 3rd Post

This month Eileen Hull's Sizzix Inspiration Team is joining with Stampotique!   We were happily supplied with 6 Stampotique stamps of our choice - so you will see lots of variety over on Eileen's blog every Tuesday in June!

Today is my third post this month for the collaboration -  and I'm excited to share with you the project I made!

I love to store my craft supplies in artistic containers - it brightens up my work space and gives me visual pleasure!    I used Eileen's Vase 3D Sizzix die for this container to hold my 12 Ranger Distress Crayons!  I die cut the Vase out of black mat board.  Then I laid Tim Holtz Burlap Stencil over it and embossed it using Wendy Vecchi White Embossing Paste -  I kept moving the stencil to fill the whole area - not worrying if it didn't cover everywhere or got smudged a little here and there!

I set the die cut aside to dry and stamped this sweet Mela image from Stampotique onto white card, colored it with some Copics (BG10, R20, RV06, YR07, E00 and colorless blender) and then fussy cut around her.

When the stenciled paste was dry (within an hour) - I assembled the vase per the instructions - using ScorTape on one end piece and the bottom piece.

I  glued a Quote Chip on one panel, letting it stick out straight as it is quite thick and would crack if bent.  I glued Mela's shoulder to the edge of the Quote Chip and also put a foam dot behind her tummy, attaching her lightly to the vase as well.

I left her arms, legs and feet loose - liking the free form look of it. 

This will certainly brighten up my work space and bring a smile to my face whenever I see Mela standing there handing me a crayon!

Eileen Hull Inspiration Team - 2nd Post - Stampotique Collaboration

Today I'm posting my 2nd project as part of the Eileen Hull's Sizzix Inspiration Team's collaboration with Stampotique.

This week, I made a coffee cup using Eileen's Mug and Spoon Die (SO sorry this mug die is now retired) as well as her Box - Make it 3D die to make it dimensional!

I started by stamping Stampotique's Wild Flowers stamp onto watercolor paper using Archival Black Ink so it wouldn't run when I added water.   I brushed water over the stamping and then started coloring with more water on my brush and paints.

When I finished coloring the image - I spritzed a little water over the whole image, wiped off the excess and dried with my heat tool.

I die cut 2 mugs - and then laid the image over the die (carefully to hopefully center it well!) and die cut the image.  I adhered the image to the mug.  I like to have dimension for the cup lip - so I die cut just the top of the mug and trimmed to fit.  I stamped the Plant Kindness sentiment on the strip and adhered it to the top of the mug.

I sponged everything with Ranger Distress Tea Dye Ink.    Here you can also see the piece I cut from the Box Make it 3D die - that will be the sides of the mug.  I only sponged down the center so the Scortape would stick to the tabs.

I've adhered one side to the back -  and then will do the front.

Here it is all put together -  with a 6 loop bow of wrinkled seam tape tied through both handles.

I left the back plain - just sponged with the Tea Dye Distress.

The sentiment goes perfectly with this image.

I added pink Tiny Twinkles to some of the flowers.

I've got some packaged biscotti that will fit nicely inside the mug for gift giving.  It would also hold a gift card or other small gift.

Lest You Forget How Much You Love the Beach

I'm excited to share my little ocean view Vignette Box today. 

Here are a few photos of how I put this together.  I had a 7" diameter circle of cardboard from the bottom of a small pizza.  I cut out a 3 1/2" x 5 1/8" rectangle to line the box.  I tore off some of the paper covering it and brushed over it with a wash of Ranger Distress Picket Fence Paint and water and dried it with my heat tool.  Then I sprayed some Salty Ocean Distress Spray Stain onto my craft mat, spritzed over the stain with water and dragged the painted cardboard panel through it letting it drip down.  I dried that layer with my heat tool and then stamped over the panel with Cover a Card Bubbles Stamp from Impression Obsession using Mermaid Lagoon Distress Ink.

I die cut the Seahorse and Wild Flower stem out of a tan Paper Leather Sheet.  I used Eileen Hull's Honeycomb embossing folder to give texture to the seahorse, rubbed over the seahorse with Distress Ground Espresso Ink and added a Candy Dot eye.  I looped the tail around the stem, glued the stem flat onto the panel and used foam dots under the seahorse  I added some "sand" using Tim Holtz recipe.  I added a Small Talk sticker - which way to the beach? after cutting it in half and sponging the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. .

I used thick foam dots behind the panel to hold it up a bit inside the Vignette Box.

I had two half circle pieces of cardboard left over from the pizza cardboard and realized one would fit perfectly at the top of my Vignette Box!  I tore off some paper and painted it with the same Picket Fence paint and water wash.  I stamped this lovely quote stamp from Gift From the Sea set by Gina K Designs onto a piece of Kraft card due cut with a Stitched Mat Rectangle Die from Lil' Inker Designs.

I sponged the edges of both of them with Ranger Distress Vintage Photo Ink. I put a piece of Linen Ribbon behind the sentiment and added two real shells in the corners.

I adhered twine along the sides and bottom edge of the frame.  I added a Starfish die cut from Paper Leather and sponged with Ground Espresso with a green enamel dot in the center.  I added a little more sand to the bottom of the frame as well as another little  real shell.  

(you can still see some of the white glue I used as it was so humid when I was making this it took forever to dry! when it does dry it will be completely clear)

I added two wooden circles to the base of the box for feet.  I sponged the edges with Distress Ground Espresso ink.  The box is a little back heavy so I had to place them a little off center, closer to the back to balance it.

I love these Vignette Boxes - and I'm so happy with how my little ocean scene came out inside it!
