Bonnie is our hostess this month and she wants us to color our die cuts!
This is an interesting concept and one you might not think of doing so let's give it a go! You'll find links to YouTube Videos over at CAS Mix Up to help give you ideas on different ways to color your die cut pieces.
Here is my first attempt and I'm rather pleased with the results!
I started by die cutting the framed trees out of watercolor paper.
Then I water colored the outside edges with green watercolor paint mixed with water on my craft mat. When I was done - I dried it with my heat tool before moving onto the next color.
Then I water colored the birch trees using a grey watercolor paint mixed with water. Drying it when I was done.
And I finished the water coloring using brown watercolor ink on the final tree.
I cut a panel of Rustic Cream and splattered brown watercolor paint over it by filling my brush with watery brown paint and tapping the brush over my finger so the splatter went on the panel. This is always tricky as I often flick too much or too big of a splatter - so it's a good idea to try it on a scrap paper first to see if you need to use more or less water with the paint on the brush!
To finish off the birch trees, I used my 01 Black Micron Pen and drew lines half way across on both sides of the trunks.
Then I layered the watercolored die cut over the panel with foam dots and splattered a little more onto the die cut. I die cut the Direct Message Banner and stamped it and glued it across the frame and layered the panel onto a Rustic Cream card base.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful colouring of your framed trees Julia. Thanks for the tip about making sure each colour is dry before moving on to the next. Sometimes (almost always!), I'm too impatient and then end up with bleeding and mud colour. I love how yours turned out and the splattering is the perfect finishing touch. xx
