Just a reminder - there is still time for you to create and link up a card for the January CAS Mix Up Challenge!
I used stamps, liquid colours (reinkers and rubbing alcohol), rhinestones and paper piecing on my birthday card today.
Here are a few photos of how I created my liquid colour background. First I dropped several drops of reinker on my craft mat using Wendy Vecchi Archival Cornflower and Orange Blossom Reinkers. Then I dribbled some rubbing alcohol (mineral spirits) over the colors and mixed it a bit with my pallet knife.
Then I pressed and dragged a panel of Ranger Specialty Stamping paper over and through the liquids ending up with this. I let the colors run a bit - and if I didn't like the coverage or mix of colors - I pressed it back onto the mat - then I heated it with my heat tool.
I repeated the process with two more sheets of Specialty Paper soaking up what was on my mat. You can't really predict what your design will come out like - you can dribble rubbing alcohol onto the paper itself to dilute the colours or you can add more color to the mat until you are happy with how it looks.
I also wanted to show you these alcohol wipes I get at CVS - I often use them to clean up my craft mat - like the mess made with this project - or when I use Alcohol Inks. They clean red rubber stamps and stencils really well (although over time they might dry out the red rubber). They clean my hands up pretty well too. DON'T USE THEM ON CLEAR ACRYLIC STAMPS!
I chose to use the lighter panel on my card today - stamping the leaf directly onto the panel. I stamped the flower onto a piece of patterned paper, fussy cut it, and layered it over the stem with foam dots. I added several clear tiny rhinestones to the flower center. I adhered the panel to a white card base and stamped the sentiment along the bottom.
So what kind of LIQUID COLOUR will you use on a CAS Mix UP card? Alcohol inks, sprays, re-inkers, acrylic paints???

All of your backgrounds turned out beautifully, Julia! The softer hues are perfect with this sweet polka dot flower! Such a fun card, my friend! Thanks for the tip on the alcohol wipes.
ReplyDeleteLOVE how your background panels turned out ... all three are so beautiful. The softest one looks so pretty with your paper pieced flower. The rhinestones add lots of sparkle. I haven't tried alcohol wipes for cleaning up. Thanks for the suggestion! xx
ReplyDeleteTFS Your pretty paper pieced flower with your soft watercolored smooshed background. I Love your other 2 backgrounds for future projects. I always enjoy your photos showing your steps. I use baby wipes sometimes for clean up. I think you probably need good ventilation for the alcohol wipes. Hugs.....
ReplyDeleteWhat a clear way to work. Messy but effective.

ReplyDeleteThe backgrounds you created are beautiful Julia, the lighter one reminds me of marble. Your paper pieced flower is a real stunner. I hope you are still recovering well and not overdoing things! Hugs, Anne xx
