Hi Everyone - thank you for all the 'well wishes' after my back surgery done on Jan 6. I continue to be feeling well from the surgery, but yesterday got hit by a bug that kept me in the bathroom most of the day!
For the month of January Monday Technique Posts - Eileen Hull's Sizzix Creative Team will be showing you how to use dies on your cards - dies don't JUST have to be for a 3D item. You can check out other cards by the team over on Eileen's blog all month long.
Today I have used Eileen's wonderful Embroidery Hoop Die along with her beautiful Eyelet Lace Embossing Folder to create a birthday card.
To get the color on the embossed pieces, I used the fun technique of rubbing my ink pad along the inside front of my embossing folder, placing the card stock inside the folder - and then running it through my Vagabond the way I would when just embossing a piece. The result is that you get the color on the background and the embossed pieces stay the color of the card stock you used. If you do the opposite - ink the back of your folder - the background would be the color of the card stock and the 'lifted pieces" would be colored.
Try it out! And always wipe the ink off your embossing folders right away!
I die cut the embroidery hoop out of cream Little Sizzles Matboard. I used the die to cut the circle piece of the embossed panel as well so it would fit inside perfectly.
I inked the outside piece of the hoop with Nutmeg ink and used Flagtsone ink on the top piece. I left the inside hoop piece the natural cream.
I layered the two hoop pieces and the circle embossed piece inside one
another and just put some tape on the back to hold them in place.
I used one of my favorite Eileen Hull dies as my card base - the Mailable Frame. It's such a great way to give a card that can be displayed nicely by the receiver! I die cut the frame out of the same cream matboard, layered the gray embossed panel over the front (covering the frame opening) and then adhered the embroidery hoop over the panel.
I stamped a sentiment on the inside and added an enamel dot. In the photo below - you can see the die cut opening where you could adhere a photo that would show on the front - which is the REAL purpose for this Mailable Frame Die - and I have used it as a frame - but I also LOVE to use it to make a sturdy standable card! You can see more of my frame cards here, here, here, and here.
To finish my 'hoop' I added a laser cut butterfly that I inked in Nutmeg, scattered 3 enamel dots over the card and knotted a piece of wrinkled seam tape around the top . I die cut happy birthday and adhered it over the panel.
Even if your friend wasn't into embroidery - I think she/he would enjoy this card! The Mailable Frame die does fit into a regular A2 envelope - so I made sure all my pieces were placed inside the edges - although it's a little thick with the butterfly added and might require extra postage if mailed.
