This month, the Group of Seven Cardmakers are creating textured backgrounds using die cuts in tone on tone colors. You will find links to several Videos using die cuts as backgrounds over at the GO7 blog.
I created two cards with the die I used - using positive and negative cuts.
I used 2 of the positive pieces of the die cut on top and bottom of this card.
I used white tone on tone.
I used the two negative cuts on my second card.
This is the die I used - Spring Floral from Pink Fresh - it's a two part die, and the bottom piece shows how it looks with both dies used - but I only used the top detail piece for the positive and negative pieces on my two cards, cutting it twice for each card.
My second attempt was to have a dark green card base layered with a stand of pine also in dark green which didn't look too great (!)
I added some splatter with white, black and orange POSCA pens and then a double layer of the pine trees but they still didn't show up very well - so I lightly rubbed a Gold Pigment ink pad over the trees and I liked the look - so this is a slight deviation from the original instructions for the technique - but here it is!
We hope you will check out the videos over at The Group of Seven Cardmakers blog as well as checking out what the rest of the GO7 did with this technique! We'd love you to link up your card using this background technique!

Julia! I never gave that die another look - until NOW!! Oh, how beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI think you managed to make the dark green work beautifully, too!
=]
Beautifully done on both, Julia!
ReplyDeleteI love the look of the white on white using this pretty die and making two cards one the positive and the other the negative Julia, and bring it together with the white strip across each with that pretty flourishy sentiment in black ink. The seasonal card works well too using the the row of trees and it comes to life with the added splattering using the white and orange POSCA's, and the gold stars and lovely gold and black sentiment strip finish it really well. x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful examples with the positive and the negative die cuts both are so cool. Your wintery night scene is so atmospheric with the touches of gold on the trees xx
ReplyDeleteYou are so clever and creative with both designs of cards, Julia. The white-on-white cards are beautiful and elegant with this amazing die. I love that you used both the positive and negative to make two cards. Your green stand of trees really shows up well with the added shading of gold ink. Again, a very creative way to emphasis the depth and shade of your tone-on-tone die-cuts. The splatters of white, black and orange adds something special. And the gold stars with the gold embossing on the sentiment ties it all together. Great work!! xx
ReplyDeleteYour two cards using the positive & negative pieces are SOOOOOO pretty Julia!! Such a simple design that really packs a punch!! And I think your green card came out beautiful!! All the gold against that dark green really SHINES! Lovely, lovely cards my friend!! Hugs. :0)
ReplyDeleteOooh, sis, that deviated Christmas card is amazing! You should just frame it and use it year-after-year as a decoration! I also love how you did your white-on-white romantic cards. What a terrific idea for using the negative!! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cards, Julia! I love the white on white designs and that green tree card is really spectacular! Love it! Sue N
ReplyDeleteThe white on white cards using the same die is lovely. What a great die that is. The forest card is beautiful with the touch of gold.
ReplyDeleteLove this technique and 2 cards for the price of one can't be bad. I think your gold highlights have saved the green card brilliantly. By coincidence my November CCC card uses this technique. I will try and remember to link it up when we publish on the 2nd. Happy Friday xx
ReplyDeleteI love the two white on white ones - both the negative and the positive work equally well. And good for you doing a variation on our technique by rubbing gold ink over the green trees. Your splatters and tiny gold stars are great additions.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous white on white with the positive and negative die cuts, Julia!! Just love your dark pine green trees too!!
ReplyDeleteI love that you used the negative for this technique too! You got two beautiful wedding cards! Adding the gold gave the second card a very elegant feeling! Love the splatters too!
