Welcome to the middle of summer to all those in the nortern hemisphere! It's time for the August CAS Stencil Card Challenge! Robyn is our hostest with the mostest this month and she wants us to use Sprays!
There are some links to videos using sprays over at CAS Stencil if you need some inspiration!
I have lots and lots of sprays and I hardly use them! (and to tell you the truth, I don't particularly like the results when I try to use them!) So I was happy to get them out, give them a shake and experiment using them with my stencils! Some were so old they no longer mixed, or just clogged up the sprayer so I got a tiny little purge of the old craft room in the process!
I finally settled on using my newest sprays - Ranger Distress Oxide Sprays - and I got out Fired Brick. I sprayed it through my Scribbles Stencil from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous - it's called scribbles but it looks like roses to me!
After I sprayed through the stencil, I lifted up the stencil by the edge, I removed the stenciled panel from my pizza box spray area (!) got out another white card panel and laid it inside the pizza box , flipped over the stencil that still had all the sprayed ink on it - and pressed it onto the white panel to get a negative print of the stencil. (see photo below!)
I stenciled on white cardstock panels measuring 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" so when I cut them to create a CAS design I was able to make 4 cards (two from each panel!).
I layered the stenciled panel over a stitched edge die cut white card panel - and I used that same stitched edge die to cut my stenciled piece so it had the stitched edge across the top and also fit perfectly on the panel!
The birthday sentiment is from Sentiment Suite: Birthday from the Greetery and the sympathy sentiment is from Words of Comfort from PTI. The sentiment banner die is from Sentiment Suite: Basics from the Greetery and the Enamel Heart is from Altenew.
So show us how you use all those sprays you have in your craft room with your stencils! You'll find links to technique videos as well as lots of inspiration from the creative design team, along with our two Guest Designers this month - Hilary and Amy over at the CAS Stencil Blog!
The challenge is open until August 24th!

So clever to use the inky side of the stencil to make extra cards. I never think of doing that, so wasteful! I love the stencil and yes it looks like roses to me too. i really like the addition of the little hearts, a lovely finishing touch xx
ReplyDeleteA fabulous card Julia, I think the scribbles stencil looks like roses too and with a simple sentiment that's all the card needs - and then your 'flip' created another lovely card... I was too busy with the one panel to even think of that. Two wonderful cards and thanks for shaking up your sprays this month, hugs Robyn
ReplyDeleteI thought the Scribbles Stencil were roses, too :) I love both cards and I must say you were very clever to create a 2nd impression with the negative! I also love your choice of sentiments and how you added the tiny hearts! Barb xx
ReplyDeletetwo beautiful cards Julia, Great inspiration for pulling out my stencils :)
ReplyDeleteLovely cards. Productive crafting time... cleaning out your craft room and getting 4 cards. x
ReplyDeleteGorgeous cards Julia. The perfect colour choice and I love the cute little hearts. I'm with you on the Scribble stencil, I think it looks like roses too! xx
ReplyDeleteAlways great to get four cards from the one technique. Fabulous effect on both of your wonderful cards and thank you for the inspiration x.
ReplyDeleteI have the same issues with sprays, Julia, but you have inspired me to give it another try. Your sprayed piece is gorgeous and I love that you got a second monoprint! Love the way you've used the stitched die to cut the design piece so it fits perfectly on the background. Two great cards!
ReplyDeleteLove how your stenciled (Roses) positive and negative images turned out, Julia. Always fun to get more than 1 background out of a technique. BTW...I LOVE your new blog redesign and banner. Isn't Loll a fabulous blog designer:-) Also so patient to get your design exactly as you want it!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs...Nancy
LOVE the gorgeous scribbles stencil with the fired brick. I'm with you, it looks like roses to me. So beautiful and soft and makes a great sympathy card. Love the little heart accent. Great monoprint from the same stencil. Creates a very artsy, beautiful birthday card. Great work Julia! xx
ReplyDeleteGorgeous cards Julia, I'm with you on the scribbles stencil, it does look like roses! Love that monoprint that you achieved in addition to the pretty sprayed card, awesome use of the technique, Cathy x
ReplyDeleteSo clever to use the stencil in two different way! The results are terrific - very striking with all of the white space.
ReplyDeleteThanks for playing along with Seize the Birthday.
The Fired Brick roses are just beautiful, Julia! Fantastic choice for the color. And how cool to make another one using the negative (monoprint)! The printed texture has so much interest. Love the wonderful design!
ReplyDeleteHideko xx
Beautiful cards, sis! Love that rose color from the Fired Brick!! I think I'll end up like you with a bunch of sprays that are no longer any good! Might have to run to Michael's if I get time to play along ~ and you've certainly inspired me to do that! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThese are so elegant and gentle... and you've always got to love a two-for-one! Fired Brick Oxide is the first red I've been tempted by in a long time and you've shown why here with that lovely muted vintage tone.
