October CAS Mix Up Challenge - Layering Stencils

It's October 1 and time for a new CAS Mix Up Challenge -  and this month I am the hostess!  Here is my challenge to you!
There are links to several YouTube Videos of ways to layer stencils so be sure to check those out!
For my card I used stamping, layering of stencils, a die cut frame and sequins!
Here are two photos showing my stencil layers -  first I sponged over this pretty Shower of Flutters stencil from Stamplorations using Ranger Distress Wilted Violet.  It's a negative stencil so the color goes on the background and leaves the buterflies with no color.
I laid the Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous mini grid stencil over the butterflies and sponged with Ranger Distress Milled Lavender.
I cut my panel into two pieces to keep my card CAS and was able to make two similar cards.
The second card has a slightly larger stenciled panel and so it covers the sides of the dotted die cut framing.
(a funny optical thing with this butterfly stencil - I find if I focus my eye on the purple -  I can lose the butterflies and it almost looks like a map of a coastline with inlets and lakes?!? then if I look directly at one of the butterflies - they come back!)
So please join us and show us how you layer stencils on your CAS cards!  See all details and the link up over at the CAS Mix Up blog here!  You have until October 24th!

  9. I'm so glad you chose stencil layering for the challenge you're hosting - it's something I want to do more of! I love what you did with the butterflies - the stenciled texture inside them adds so much to your beautiful cards. And you're right, when I stared at the purple on the second one, I saw the map of the coastline!

  10. Julia, TFS how you used your negative stencil for your pretty background and then stenciled over your butterflies. Your photos and descriptions of your technique were so helpful. I have several negative stencils, including your butterflies. You have inspired me to use on a card. Thank you again my friend and I am so pleased with your challenge technique..Stencil Layering. Your card is a beautiful CAS design my friend.
    Hugs..

  12. This butterfly card is so pretty, Julia! I love the colors! Thank you for showing us how you layered the stencils with photos! And thank you so much for hosting a fun challenge this month! I'm looking forward to trying the stencil layering this weekend! And yes, somehow the card reminds me of Rubin's vase (you see a vase when focusing white, and see two person's profiles when focusing black). :-) Hideko

  13. This works really well Julia and I adore the Wilted Violet ink for the negative and then the TH stencil with the little squares works well using the pink to give a pretty pattern to the butterflies. I love that cut out circle frame too. x
