Wishing You in Watercolor

Today I have a Christmas watercolored tag to share that I made for two challenges.
Here are a few photos of how I made my tag.  I stamped a text stamp onto Arches Watercolor paper using Archival Jet Black Ink (it's waterproof once it dries)
When the ink was dry, I brushed over the panel with water and then water colored the panel with an burnt orange color and let it dry.
I die cut a tag from the panel and a deer from a patterned paper as well as a piece of matboard.  I glued the two deer together to make it more sturdy
I watercolord over the deer with the same color to tone down the white dots a bit and added Small Talk/Occasions stickers. I added 3 tiny wood veneer stars (can you see them?!) and looped a piece of gold tinsel string through the top.
I often send a tag as a Christmas card so the receiver can hang it on their tree!
I'm linking my tag to:

  1. Quite an unusual & very striking ornament. Love the script on both the ornament and the backing mat, and the deer blended so well, after you did the wash over it. Still popped from the background just beautifully. I'm admiring your tag holder, as I have several of those prickly frogs too. A friend gets them for me at estate sales. Julia, this is a beautiful tag! TFS

  2. Am loving this tag Julia. Thanks for the photo tutorial ... really enjoy seeing your process. LOVE that scripty background and the soft watercolouring. Toning down the patterned paper is such a clever idea. They look perfect together. I didn't see your three wooden stars so had to go back to take a closer look --- sweet! Thanks for sharing at my tag event and with CAS Watercolour! xx

  4. I love the shape of your tag and all your steps, so wonderfully described and photographed. One of these days I am going to try photographing a step by step description, but may have to be after the holidays when I have more time...esp. to clean off my desk from all the projects I keep working on...lol! TFS and always inspiring us, Julia. Hugs, Nanchy

  7. This is a gorgeous Christmas ornament, Julia! I know you made it as a tag, but I'm envisioning an entire tree filled with your fabulous creations. What a site that would be!! I love the look of the script background.

  8. What a delightful ornament/tag Julia! I did find all three stars - but may not have without instruction! Excellent work, thanks for explaining how you did the colors on the deer! (and the details about the Archival ink being waterproof once dry - great to know!). I love Arches papers, too.
    Hugs!!
