Loll and Friends - Twelve Tags of Christmas - Day 6

Loll and Friends - Twelve Tags of Christmas - Day 6

I was thrilled when Loll Thompson invited me again this year to make a tag for her wonderful Twelve Tags of Christmas blog posts!  Today is Day Six

For my offering this year -  I made a tag using lots of Tim Holtz supplies and two of his creative techniques (you can find Tim's tutorial here).
Here's my tag!
I have a few photos of just how I created this.  First, for the #8 Manila Tag, I used Tim's Paint Patina technique - dropping some Fired Brick and Brushed Pewter Distress Paints onto my craft mat, spraying the paint with water and then dragging my tag through the mix.  I let the paint drip down the tag and spritzed with more water to blend it until I had the look I liked.  I dried the tag with my heat tool and sponged the edges with Fired Brick Distress Ink.
For this next piece I used Tim's Alcohol Resist technique.   I cut a piece of Yupo 2 3/4" x 5".  I put drops of Red Pepper and Cranberry Adirondack Alcohol Inks onto a felt pad on my applicator and pounced it over the Yupo until it was completely covered.
Then I laid Tim's tree stencil over the Yupo and rubbed over it with a bit of Alcohol Blending Solution on a foam pad.  You can see how the alcohol removed the ink in a smudgy kind of way!
I dropped some Mushroom and Butterscotch Alcohol Inks over an Adornment Pinecone and dried it with my heat tool.
I added the pine cone to the top of the tag using a Loop Pin through a piece of Trimming and a bow of wrinkled seam tape.
The sentiments are Metallic Stickers/Holiday Talk.  I added a piece of Symphony Tissue tape along the bottom as well as a Decorative Deer with a twine "scarf" tied around her neck and blowing in the wind in the forest!
You'll find my tag posted over at Loll's blog here - and be sure to check out the first 5 days as well as the next 6!  Such great inspiration for the coming holidays!

  1. Gorgeous tag Julia. Love the techniques you've used. The background is beautiful with the smooshed red and silver paints. I only have Tim's white paint so now need to go shopping! :)

And love the polished stone look with the shades of red for your main focal panel. Such beautiful colours and awesome design with the ghosted trees! The sweet deer with the twine scarf, the bit of music at the bottom, and the shine from that gorgeous pinecone touched with more colours add great details, Julia. Thank you so much for being a Guest Designer at my Twelve Tags of Christmas event. xx

  2. Stunning tag Julia! I Love your smooshed paint 1st tag layer and your gorgeous AI layer. Both give so much texture and rich color to your tag. Your embellishments add so much fun Christmasy elements to your tag. Love how your black trim really made both tags pop! TFS my friend. Hugs, Nancy

Love the pinecone and how it made it the color you wanted for it, it looks fabulous at the top of your tag. Hugs, Brenda

  6. Can you hear me singing, Julia?! Gosh, I hope not! That is NOT a pleasant sound and it would not go with this extremely pleasant Christmas tag you've made for Loll's challenge as a GD! It's sensational! The ribbon and charm and the deer with her pretty scarf are icing on the cake! Thank you for sharing how you made this magic happen!! Hugs, Darnell

  13. This tag has such a breathtaking shade of red. Loved the glimmer with the silvery color marbled in, and appreciate the how-to photos. Brilliant idea to use the stencil to remove some of the tree color to create the shadowy look it achieved. New technique to me. I LOVE this beautiful tag...and what a clever way to add some color to the pinecone! TFS & have a great upcoming week
